There's a place up the street, their backyard backs up to the main street that goes through my town, that has a huge sign that says they breed and sell White German Shepherd puppies. I've never heard of white GSD's and was wondering if they are a true breed, or some hybrid thing. They have started keeping the dogs outside lately, and from what I can tell (I usually drive really fast on this street) they look pretty. These people also sell llamas, cows and I think Emu's, and used to sell Huskies. Anyway, I was just curious!
Yes, there is such dogs as white german shepards. My Aunt and Uncle in California at 4 of them when I was a mere kid back in the 1970's, if I would live in the country I myself would have one.Since live in townhouse in northeast wisconsin I have my beloved shih tzu.

Alicat, that's kind of what I was wondering...obviously they exist, but is it some form of designer mutt, or are they acceptable colorations in the GSD world? I don't really care either way, because yes, they are beautiful, but just curious.
well that's a good question. I guess they are not acceptable if you want to show...which can bring up the topic should you breed either. There are many breeds that have this dilema..(bostons being one.) brindle, seal, or black with white are the only acceptable colors..but people try to charge more for chococlate or solid white, when they are not accepted. So it just comes down to personal opinion on the subject. This subject could go on and on. If you go by AKC standards...then it is not right, and I quote "A white dog must be disqualified." But did you check out that site I posted?

white is a disqualification only in the AKC registry. they are accepted in the UKC. this is from the breed standards: Color
The German Shepherd Dog comes in many colors and white. In evaluating colored dogs, strong, deep colors are preferred. Nose, lips, and eyerims must have dark pigment, regardless of coat color. Color faults are minor in comparison to defects of type and structure. Serious faults: Pale, washed-out colors; blue; liver.
white gsd's are not albino. so they are an accepted breed with other registries other than AKC.
I own a white German Shep and he is just the best dog in the world! He rocks! He is very smart, and fun and beautiful. I get lots of people asking me if he is a mix since people normally do not see pure white. I wanted a white one because it is different. Great dog.
I think most white shepherd are pretty, but I much prefer the all blacks or the red/blacks. just my opinon though. they cant be shown in the AkC but can be registered. they are great dogs..some say more hyper than the other colors.Theya re also the biggest out of the shepherds.
hello..yes all whites can be pretty...many are beset with allergy, temperment and health issues from breeding to recessives. My brother and his gf had 2..both ended up dying pretty young with cancer...I have never seen one who was not hyper...spastic really...a girl by us lost one..and we saw him around...my hubby was trying to help her catch him..even put out shep that was in heat out ( supervised, mind you) in our fenced area to draw him in...he was here for a few days...some where around..he came and ate the food and water we put out..but..could not catch him and hubby and the girl even did a few late nite stake outs..sadly...the dog was spotted hit in the road several miles away a sum total of a week or 10 days from when he was missing....we tried to help he and she still drops y and even brough us a clock as a gift for our kindness...we just wanted her to get her dog back.. and it didnt work out..and we all feel for her..
i say if you have them and love them...great...for me as a breeder...they are not what I want to breed to...since they are faults...but to each his own...for me they wash out the pigment i am trying so hard to maintain...
Icy...the ones i really think are an outrage is the panda shepherds...
I am not sure about german shepards but my friend had a white boxer and he was deaf and dumb. He was beautiful. She had to finally give him away to a boxer rescue lady because he was so out of control and tried to bit her husband. The lady placed him in another home and he bit two small children so she took him back and said she would just keep him herself for the rest of his life.
Black is a normal GSD color. It is recessive to sable, wich is the true base color of the breed.
Black and tan as is so common in the US is a recessive coloration which can and does loose its coloration if a breeder is not careful or does not cross back sable into the lines. That is why there are some solid tan GSD.
