My chihuahua is almost 11 weeks old and she sleeps so much!!! I know puppies are like babies and require more sleep, but she is always tired. She'll get up and play with my other dog for 10-15 minutes and then it is back to bed. She has gone to the vet, was tested for worms, and it came back negative. The vet said she looked healthy. She is little(1.5 pounds) but otherwise very healthy. Is this just normal? My other dog is a puggle and although she slept a lot when she was a puppy, it definetly wasn't this much!!!
hi, new member i would like to welcome you first. yes i think it's normal for your chi to sleep he's still just a baby. i also have a chi. he slept all day too got up ,play a little and went right back too sleep, dont complain, b/c everytime i look at teacup i always say to myself OMG I WISH YOUR CARTERS NEVER WORE OUT.lol....lol.....if the vet check your baby and said he was ok then dont worry to much about it. plus 1lb is so tiny he cant do too much but sleep. lol...lol... dont expect too much from a baby. give him some time. lol....lol. (be patient) i would love too see a picture of him.
I have no idea how to get my pictures on line. I have a digital camera but it never works when I try to get things online. I am happy to hear that this behavior is normal!!!! She is soooo sweet and I just love her to death!!!
I wouldn't worry..as long as she's eating and drinking, using the bathroom, and not voimiting...it's fine. My puppy is 4 months old and sleeps alot to. It's like they have bursts of energy then...zzzzzz. I don't worry...and if the vet checked her out and said she was okay then she's fine.
Hi there. I have been having the same worries about my Pug pup. When she is awake, she rips around the house - she's unstoppable! But since setlling in with us, she seems to be sleeping alot. She is wee too - 1.8lbs at 15 weeks! Other than that, she eats, poops and plays well. And most importantly, her vet says she is healthy. I hope you find a bit of comfort in hearing of a similar (but I've been assurred normal) situation.
I rember when my chi was that size ,i use to carry him around in my robe pocket .and he would just love it.he tried one day getting back in . i told his little butt those free rides is over with you too big teacup (his name) he weigh 5lb or maybe almost 6lb he's still tiny.spoil as ever.
I have three, all adults over 2, and all they do is sleep! Sleep, play a little, eat, get some pets and kisses, sleep, sleep, sleep.......People thikn of them as over bred, hyped up, dogs, but they are very laid back.
Hello, I see you are a new member just like me. Oh, and about the pictures; upload them to your computer, save them in a file located under "pictures" (it will normally do this on it's own). The best way for beginners is to go to dogster, sign up, create your pet's profile. The second step is to upload a photo. Click on the 'browse' button. Your picture files should pop up. Doulble click on the selected photo, and click upload on the dogster page. About the sleeping, I wouldn't worry about it. It's normal. When my mother's Chihuahuas were that size I use to carry them around in a 'dog purse.' My mother's two Chihuahaus sleep all the time. I think it's normal for the breed.
You said your camera never works when you try to upload pics right? Have you added it as new hardware on your computer? Although when you connect it, I would think a window would pop up telling you have connected new hardware. If you need any help, let us know more details.
Every puppy I've had has slept ALOT! Small breed puppies may sleep even more than large breeds. As long as your vet says the pup is healthy, and the pup is getting the nutrition and water it needs, I wouldn't worry. :)
I saw on emergency vets on Animal planet that had a baby chi that did that. The solution was that the baby Chi's sugar got too low and made the Chi sleep all the time. The Vet told the people to feed more times a day to keep their sugar up. Of course you should call your vet and get a sugar test done first before just feeding more meals. But perhaps this is a Chi trait and their sugar drops very fast...meybe?
I am not sure if this has anything to do with why she was is sleeping so much but today after Coco went to the bathroom she had a greenish discharge on her vulva. I took her to the vet and they thought she may either have puppy vaginitis or a urinary tract infection. She gave me an antibiotic to give her for either infection. She keeps peeing little amounts and seems to keep trying to go alot. Hope she gets better soon!!! :(
