hi, i'm 37 weeks pregnant (wondering if that is somehow related) and for the last 2 weeks my aus. shep/lab mix who is an indoor dog but who has been spending several hours outside with our other dog for the close to 4 years of her life is continuously whining and pawing to come inside. the weather is beautiful and i'm not sure how to handle or what is causing this very sudden behavior. please help. she seems to be eating and doing fine physically.
I have heard that some dogs are extraordinarily sensitive to their owners physical conditions. It is highly possible that your dog senses that your body is going through some changes, or your own levels of stress (I know I got very edgy the closer it got to my due date when I was pregnant). Indulge the dog, it does no harm for her to be with you and gives her peace of mind.
My lhasa apso would not leave me alone when I was pregnant. She was like a shadow and always in my face. It is normal. It is nice to have extra hugs when you are so far along...atleast that is how I saw it.
When we lived in New Zealand for my husbands job, the cat next door kind of adopted us as his second family. I became pregnant with our 3rd child and the day before I went into premature labor, the cat, who was so laid back, became aggressive and unruly. The next day, I went into premature labor. I truly think the cat knew something was going to happen. He was always so sweet and gentle. When I came home from the hospital, he was the same sweet cat. Animals are very intuitative. I am amazed at the animals that detect 20 minutes before a person has a seizure or heart attack. They are truly amazing!!
