Hello everyone last month i bought a pitbull puppy on the paper. He lives inside with me,three days ago i took him for a walk on the leash but decided to let him loose so he can do his doggy business and he saw a squirell across the street and he ran and got runned over by a white pick up truck. The truck left the scene and the pup screamed for his life he tried to drag his back legs and i picked him up and went home.I gave him an hour alone and when i checked his legs nothing was wrong with him,but later that night he wasnt using his rear leg but when i grab his leg he DOESNT scream so i guess its not broken but i do see a bone sticking out and when i grab it he doesnt scream. His bone is still intact he still has movement is it dislocated or is there a possiblility that it might be broken. He doesnt want to eat WHAT SHOULD I DO?My friends want me to throw him out in the trashcan but i will never do that what should i do im worried.
Ok, why would someone with a dog with a bone sticking out and ask what should I do? Take him into his vet! Have an x-ray, let them fix it. If one of my dogs were run over I would fly to the vet, even if it meant I had to literally learn to propell my arms and fly. Do you by any chance live in the south? Don't throw him in the garbage, if you can't afford to care for him and heal him, take him down to the local SPCA or shelter. But take him to the vet quick, like today......

ok, now that I've regained my composure, I have to apologize for my first answer.
But he needs to go to a vet. His leg might or might not be broken. Even if its just dislocated, he needs to have it put back in place, something only a vet should do. He also will need pain medicine/as well as xrays. Its going to cost a bit of money. I hope you can afford it and don't let your dog suffer. If you have no money, maybe try calling the humane society or a vet and asking for a payment plan or a discount.
well i called a vet and they wanted $200 for x-rays and medication that doesnt include the treatment for him leg like i said he doesnt scream he doesnt whine but he isnt using his back leg and a bone is sticking out.i got $200 but thats for christmas shopping.
Oh my god! Have you ever broken a bone? I have broken my ankle, fractured my foot and elbow, broken my thumb, sprained my knee and dislocated my shoulder and have a sprained jaw. None of these injuries were pleasant. In fact, they were quite painful. At least take the dog to get some pain meds. Ouch!
plus the fact that you waited three days it is probably getting gang green in which case the leg will probably need to be amutated.
which if you would have taken it straight to the vets you could have probably saved the leg.
now it is probably less then a 50 - 50 chance of that.
if your leg was broken and someone keep pulling on it and twisting it. do you think you would be eating.
animals don't show pain like people do. they hide it, but it doesn't mean they don't feel the pain.
i hope you never get a broken leg and have to relay on someone to get you to the doctors. were they are telling you o its just a sprane stop being a baby about it. of course unlike the dog you would probably be screaming your head off. where they would pay attention to you.
What answer do you want? Oh, you are such a caring pet owner. You bought a little puppy and let him live in your home. You let your PUPPY off a leash near a street and he got hit by a car THREE days ago! You haven't taken him to a vet. Having Christmas cash for yourself is more important than the health, well being, life and comfort of your puppy. Wow, I crown you: "Pet Owner of the Year!" Congratulations!
My true answer, tell your kids you screwed up and let your dog get hit by a car so there is gonna be less presents under the tree this year!
We gave you your answer, it is the ONLY answer. That dog is your responsibility when you decided to get him! Take the money and get the dog to the vet! In the mean time, I want you to lie down in the road so I can run YOU over, then tell me that you dont need to go to the ER, if this were you, I know you would have taken yourself to the doctor immediately, and you owe the same treatment to your dog!
LANGNIAPPE GOOD POINT BUT IF THEY ARE GONNA REMOVE HIS LEG WHATS THE POINT IN WASTING MONEY I CALLED THE ANIMAL SHELTER AND THEY ARE GOING TO HUMANELY UTHANIZED HIM TOMMOROW POOR GUY THATS BETTER THEN WHAT MY FRIENDS ARE TELLING ME.IF YOU HAVE ANY OTHER IDEAS FOR ME TO KEEP HIM WITHOUT HIM LOSING HIS LIFE OR ME LOSING MY CHRISTMAS EARNINGS I WOULD GLADLY APPREACIATE IT I DONT WANNA TAKE HIM TO THE ANIMAL SHELTER BUT I GUESS THATS THE ONLY CHOICE.
I got hit by a car Thursday night in the parking lot. Then got hit with a shovel, and then a cart (God, I hate Walmart). None of them were too bad, but I was in the ER the next day. And I didn't even have a bone protruding from my leg! If my dog got hit by a car, he'd be at the vet immediately, visible injuries or not.
I have an idea...Don't ever buy another dog! You obviously can't care for one properly and responsibly and you and your money are so much more important than the dogs pain. Buy a stuffed animal instead, then you don't have to "waste" your precious Christmas earnings on him.
Heather feather i really appreciate you crowning me pet owner of the year, you are the only one in this forum who understands how much i care for this dog,but pitbull are tough they were bred to ignore torn muscles, broken bones, dislocated bones, and exhaustion so you do make a point.Thank you for understanding me and i will pray all night that he will get better because god always makes miracles when you believe in him.
If you're too cheap to treat him, then bring him to the humane society. Hopefully they'll patch him up and try to adopt him out to somebody else. But then again, they might put him to sleep. Its still better than living his life in pain and being tossed in a garbage can.
Shut the caps off, start being responsible and take the dog to the vet! There is no guarantee he will lose his leg, they may simply need to medicate him and relocate the leg. You wont know until you take him. If it requires surgery then set up a payment plan. Your obviously too uncaring and self centered to own an animal, whatever the outcome, please do not ever get another pet!
