Is is true that a dog can have puppies by two completely different dogs in the same litter? one of my dogs puppies doesn't look ANYTHING like the other 5. His color is different, his legs are shorter, and his body is longer!
I was told that it is possible because female dogs produce multiple eggs, but I wanted to get a second opinion.
ok thanks very much. now I know one of my puppies is part husky/pit, and part some poodle-terrier looking dog lol. isn't that just lovely.
don't get me wrong with that though. I love him, but the poodle-terrier looking dog is a "brat", yeah that's the polite way to say it. I can't stand him. He's always messing with the trash,.. and no-one in the neighborhood knows where he came from. All we know it he's nappy, and dirty and won't let anyone touch him.

I would be inclined to say yes. My two friends, and I all got puppies for free from a lady with "Dachshund/JRT" mixes. Mine and one of my friends looked almost like purebred JRT. Then my other friends was taller, fatter and had the colors of a rott. It was very STRANGE.
Erbabe337 I'll have to get a good pic of him later,.. I haven't taken any that you can really see him very well in because he already has a home to go to when he gets old enough. BUT there is a pic of him at www.dogster.com/?237343. he's curled up next to Baby, his mother though, you can't really see what I mean about how different he is by that pic. and you can't see that he's black, but he has little gold streaks in the black. I'll try to get a pic so you can see what I mean, it's hard to explain.
well in all honesty all the puppies a female has can have diffrent fathers. it just depends on how many males she was with and how many eggs that one male fertilized.
which is why it is so important to keep your eyes on your dogs when they are in heat. especilly if they are a small breed (which i know yours isn't but for others with small breeds).
this is important, because if a much larger dog gets with you female even if it only fertilizes one egg it could produce a large puppy that could kill the female, or cause serious problems. where a c-section will be needed.
We normally do keep an eye on our dogs with they are in heat, but this time we didn't know she was in heat and we left for a long weekend, and couldn't leave her in the house because she chews everything up. It was too late when we got back,....she was already pregnant. We just found out yesterday where the father of 5 of them lives and his name Doobie.

If the female was left out and her perfume went all over the area...guess what?....the milkman's dog, the postman's dog and the UPS man's dog would have probably romanced her and they went behind the woodpile for some he-ing and she-ing.
