i have a 5 month old lab, and she digs holes in my wall. i am not sure but i think she might eat it too. is this normal? what would be causing her to do this. my older lab who is now a year and 2 months. he never did that. i am just confused. is there anything that i can do to stop her from doing this?
Puppies are destructive, they get bored they start ripping things apart, you should crate train her and crate her when theres no one to watch her, both to keep her from destroying things and hurting herself. Also, there could be mice in your walls, the dog hears them and trys to get at them
well i am here all the time. she has tons of toys and plays with my older lab all the time. she made a really big hole last night while my husband was in the shower. and i was laying down. we play with her all the time and she. she just recently started doing this. whenever we aren't here she goes in her home. cause i know that they love to tear up everything. my other dog tore up things when he was younger. maybe she will grow out of it. when my other dog was younger he like to chew on the window blinds. so my husband told me to spray them with vinegar, and he never touched it again. i just think that it is crazy to spray the walls with vinegar. plus that would make my house smell really bad. she tore the hole by the bathroom door. so i am thinking that made she was mad that she couldn't get in the bathroom with my husband. because she loves to be where you are. she will scratch at the door until you let her in. i think she is too spoiled, which would be my fault.
how would i know if there are mice in the walls? my sister told me that last night but i just thought she was crazy. there are no signs in house at all. and my older dog doesn't seem to notice anyting.
I think there are people you can call to check for the mice. You might be right about the dog trying to get into the bathroom with your husband though. My Mom's two dogs will lay by the bathroom door when she goes in there and scratch and whine to get in! It's kind of funny. She almosts trips on them when she comes out of the bathroom...it's like they think she's leaving them or something.
Sometimes at night you can hear them, or you might see droppings around, you seldom actually see the mouse unless there's s lot of them. It doesn't mean your house is dirty, they just come in when it gets cold looking for food. We get mice and voles in our basement, and the cats tend to take care of them. Older homes, those with slat and plaster walls often are honeycombed with tunnels from decades of mouse invasions. If your not seeing droppings your probably don't have mice.
i don't see dropping or anything. so i am pretty sure i don't have mice. i looked and looked just to make sure. does this seem normal for her to do this? i think it is crazy and i have to keep repairs the holes with spackling. not very fun. any advice on how to get her to stop.
Just like dogs like to dig in dirt, inside dogs like to dig on the floor and walls. For instance have you ever seen an inside dog bury their food? Its the funniest thing how they try to bury it with their nose and there is nothing there...its just instinct, nothing to worry about..he may even be trying to bury something :)
He sounds bored. Is he getting a nice long walk or jog every day?
We fostered a scottie/poodle mix.She lOVED to ddig and would dig at the carpet or couch.S owe got her a baby pool and filled it with sand. And she could just dig away.and she quit diggin our carpet out.
i have a yard both of the dogs play outside for a long time. they also play constantly inside. they have tons of toys. they chase each other and play till they are tired then they sleep a little bit and do it all over again. plus i play with them too. so i don't think that she is bored, but just in case how would i know? will she grow out of this. she doesn't ever dig at the carpet.(knock on wood) so i guess i am lucky there.
Well then I dont think she is bored. But is she getting alot of exersize?? labs are known to be chewers and diggers. She may grow out of it.But if you wait that long you may not have walls at al!! LOL Get her on a leash and get prong collar Correct her for everytime she starts doing it.Also you can use vinegar or water to spray her when she does it. She needs to be corrected soem way. Also is she getting a daily walk?? For a lab a backyard is NOT enoguh. She needs a daily walk or run.My dogs get a mile Run and then I bring them back and cool them off with a mile walk on the treadmill. So she needs a good long walk.Be careful about too much hard exersize like what I do with my dogs. She is young and her bones need energy to grow.So a half mile walk or jog should be fine.
i can't take her for daily walks cause i had ankle surgery and i just recently got out of my wheelchair. so i am limited on what i can do. but on the weekends we take the dogs to the park and let them play they also get to go swimming. they love it. the only thing about being able to correct her. is it is very hard to catch her in the act. she is sneaky. she knows that is it wrong because once i relize that she did it. i just look at her and she runs to her home. she punished her self when she is bad. she puts her self in a time out, which is cute. but that doesn't really help me. if she gets caught then she gets punished but like i said it is hard. i guess good luck to me. oh other question. are females more difficult than males? cause i never really had any problems with my male. other than your normal puppy behavior. but my female is a little terror.
Could someone else walk her for you? Maybe you could hire a dog walker until you are better? It all depends on the dog itself.I have seen more calmer males than girls.Since you cant correct her keep her on a leash at all times.Unless she is in the crate or in a part of the home where you can watch her and correct her if needed.
Good Luck!! Dont give up!! She WILL get it!!
Got any pics?? I have also seen that american stck is more hyper and has more behavioural problems. than the English stock. My trainer breeds english and they are the best dogs.i would never own an american lab only english.Plus I love their stocky bodies and big block head.Just very pretty to me.
