Hello everyone, I have a 10 month old cocker spaniel who has been said to have skin allergies. The vet told me this a couple of months ago. My puppy sometimes smells really bad due to the skin allergies. Are there any special shampoos that I can use to help with this problem or any type of supplements that I can give him? I currently use oatmeal shampoo for sensitive skin and bathe him at least once every two weeks.
I had a cocker with the same problem. She had a really strong "doggy" smell all the time. Even after a bath, she smelled like a kennel. I found this shampoo at petsmart that contained iodine. It was the only thing that got rid of that smell. I don't know if they still carry it, but if they don't, maybe a small amount of an antibacterial like betadine wash added to your regular shampoo might help. Just don't make it too strong to dry the skin.
any medacated shampoo would be best it will say on the bottle madicated. your vet should of gave you some meds for the condition. my lab got a skin problem awhile back and they said bath in med shampoo and i gave the med they gave and he was good to go it never came back. good luck
Hi Kim, I had the same problem with my Shih Tzu, especially in the summer because we live in Tx. I found a great shampoo and conditioner that you can use literally everyday without drying out your dogs coat. It is called Hylite Shampoo and the same for the conditioner. Just put that into your search engine and you can order it online. It cost me right at 20 for both but it will last a long time. It smells great and I take it to my groomer to use so that he doesn't itch. Hope this helps!
someone told me that if you add olive oil to their dog food that can help with dry skin. haven't tried it and i won't til i ask a vet if its ok. but i've been told it helps. i know you said she's smelly but the bath might dry out her skin, just trying to help. good luck!
