I will be geting our new addition in about a week. The last time I had a dog I had never heard of pee-pee pads. Some say when you have smaller dogs it's easier to train them on the pads. BUT, what happens when we are out and about? Is is good to train them for both? Or is it just easier to train them outside like the good 'ol days?
It's possible to train them on both. My friend's yorkie will go outside and on the PP pads. When they aren't home, they just lock their yorkie in the kitchen with PP pads everywhere & she goes on them :o). I was thinking of training my dog to go on pads but I decided to litter train instead.
My friends teacup poodle started out really good traing on one and nows she's about 7months old and she likes to play with it, drag it around ect. so be consistant with which ever potty training you go with. I think my friend got lazy and lost controll of her Fifi!lol!
My parents used puppy pads for their Scottish Terrier puppy. He didn't use it, but did enjoy chewing them up. lol I have never used one myself, and prefer the outside training method. It seems to me that the pad would confuse them, and make it seem like going potty inside is okay. Then again, I got both my dogs when they were older puppies (~4-6 months) so they were easier to train outside than extremely small, young pups.
I would not leave the pad in the puppy's crate when you are not there to supervise though, since it could chew up the pad and choke on it.

Puppies seem to use them GREAT, than they get older and start to dislike them. My YorkiePoo used one like a Pro as a puppy, but now he is nearly a Year and ripes them up!!! I take him on 2 walks a day (morning and night) and then in between he goes on the fake grass patch we have in the garage. That is a great idea too if Pee Pee pads don't work for you =] Yes.........one day we came home and he had ripped up the pads to shreads Thank God he did not choke, so we never put them in again.
