if he had removed the word chinese and just called them SOB's that wouldnt have been racist. since the thread was about the fur trade in china i see why he used the word chinese, i dont find it to be a racial slur either.
it's cool if he/she was just referring to the people that were just killing the dogs, but america is probably 1 of the most racist country even though we are perceived as not. Look at our history. There is stilla lot of racism going on and I see it a lot.
America in my opinion is the best country in the world which opens its doors to many many people all around the world It is a great country where we enjoy our freedom unlike countries where people can not even express their opinions
ohmygosh you have got to be kidding. I can't believe you think that comment is racist. Obviously no one knows what racism is. It sure the heck isn't recognizing someone's apparent nationality. I think we should kill those commie SOBs, but for there crimes against humanity not there taste for juicy puppies.
I have seen some students harassing iraqis at my school and threatening to kill them. Go to Africa or Europe for a few weeks. They are more opened. I live in California and it's incredibly diverse here, but there is still racism. Even George Bush is racist. Didn't you learned that the highest paid workers are still white males and the lowest are hispanics and blacks. Even though asians make up only 4 percent of the population they make more income than whites because of their hard working backgrounds. If two people have the same qualitifcations for a job and 1 is a white and the other a minority. The white person will more likely get the job. I've learned this in my economics class. It was even on the news. Let's just make sure theirs no more racial sayings on this site, so we can talk about our terrificpets w/o worries. =)

some people take racism to a whole new level. some comments may sound racist to some, when they are not meant to be at all. i have a VERY diverse family. we are white. my grandparents divorced when i was very young. my grandfather married Vi , she was chinese. she died when i was a teen. he then married Soon, she was vietnamese. my aunt miyoko is japanese. another aunt adopted two children, tina is black and lorene is indian. my sons fiance' , Erica is black. they have two sons. kimani is black and baby jaymes is mixed. my daughters boyfriend is black. i call baby jaymes my little Pickaniny. its a negro term for a young child. i love my grandsons. it is an endearing term from me to him. they now live in california. when erica calls she asks me if i want to talk to kimani and my pickaniny. if anyone else has a problem with it it is THEIR problem and they need to get over themselves !
I hope dont nobody become racist againsy teacup. hes brown & tan with a little white spot under his neck. hehehe and if teacup went to o/b school and past . i hope no one would say ,he only pass b/c he was brown & tan with a little white spot under his neck.the judge said he pass the o/b class b/c he was qualify. he was the right puppy we were looking for.not b/c of his color. we are talking about dogs (right ) not people
I'd like to bet the people that didnt think it was a racial remark wasnt oriental. I found it and a few other chime in's say things that were pointed toward racism. I found it offensive , thats why i got on my defensive soap box. But this forum is filled with diversity so I must bite the bullet and remember to chill out when things get to me personally.Good Karma is all I'm seeking! It can be hard and i hope we all can forgive and forget, so when we talk about other issues we can have fun and not feel negitive towards others because of thier beliefs. It causes bad vibes.
I agree with Foxfur and Riley. I hate that if you say the word "black" or "chinese" or "asian" or "mexican" its automatically a racial comment. I think more of the racial problems stem from so-called minorities (many aren't minorities in number anymore) pull the race card whenever someone mentions a race or color. I'm a pasty white kid, but god sometimes I wish I had some pigment to me. Then I could have gotten FREE scholarships in college, instead I have a $90K financial aid bill.
My first year of college, I had a crazy black chick for a roommate (she was literally crazy...just been released from a mental hospital because she stabbed her 12 year old brother). She was always trying to set me up with someone (that she was sleeping with). She put me on the phone with some guy who asked me if I liked black guys. I assumed, in common sense, that he was asking if I was attracted to black guys. I told him sometimes. She went off and told my RA that I was racist because I only like black people sometimes. Thats not what I meant at all, although I didn't like her at all for other reasons. I should have been honest and just said no, I am not attracted to black men, just like I am not attracted to blonde guys, skinny guys, or short guys...I like em tall, fat and brown eyes! There are some attractive men of color, like the guy on CSI, but I'm not attracted to him. Does that make me racist?
A good book that touches on the subject is Freakonomics. I love this book, it's like the explanation of how my mind thinks, but beware, it can be offensive if you're too conservative.
Discussing the occurances that take place in certain parts of the world is not racist. If you are talking about something that may have happened in the UK for discussion sake, it is only natural that you would say that it's people are english, so hence to call someone a "chinese" if that is the case cannot possibly be regarded as racist. I abhor what the chinese in China do and will never understand the cruelty and suffering that they induce in animals. This isn't about the colour of their skin or anything else to do with the way that they look, what it is about is the DEED.
The business of being politically correct is just a convenient excuse to shut people up when a topic is unwanted so hence it has become quite fashionable to label people as racist so that the subject is not raised. That is absurd and if a country is known to be cruel, there is nothing "racist" by raising awareness and discussing it!
What this has to do with our one similarity (at least!), I don't know - woof! But this is too serious to ignore. This is a tough one because when ‘houndlover123’ used the word “chinese “ he/she could have been referring to either the chinese race or the chinese culture. I would be inclined to give ‘houndlover123’ the benefit of the doubt and say that he was referring to the chinese culture and NOT the chinese race. It is abhorrent to me that anyone could eat dog and cats but I am a product of my environment, as they are too.
Also, HeatherFeather - what a ill-considered thing to say. You wish you were a different colour sometimes because you could have had your education subsidised?! Yeah, it must really be an easy ride for "minorities" in the US. Many people I know look at non-white America and think, god they have it easy don’t they? - occupying all the holiday homes in the Hampton's, getting all the CEO positions, dominating the Fortune 500 list......etc! Ha! Your first year at college was this - you roomed with a crazy. She wasn’t crazy because she was black.
Now, may I suggest a good book - A People's History of the United States by Howard Zinn! Or anything by Noam Chomsky!
