Yes I wear my seatbelt everytime i get in my vehicle. Even if its a 1 min. drive to the corner store. My husband wears a seat belt everytime he gets in. My kids wear seat belts when they get in the car.
okay, i see both sides to an extent...and im just stating my opinion. i can't say i agree with a big dog hanging out the window from the drivers lap, but if thats what that person wants to do...then it isn't my place to tell them they can't. last i knew this was AMERICA. but, how many cats has everyone seen playing with a mouse and having "fun" while it is still alive and wounded?...but,animals don't torture thier prey??? how many fish are there that lure in thier prey, making the prey think that the body part is food?...but animals don't cheat or lie??? anyone ever heard of dogs chasing cattle? they do it out of boredome most of the time, injuring cows....but they aren't doing it for fun? last i checked animals were property. what about cows? they live and breathe too? but we still fatten them up and kill them...chickens too. so i guess what it comes down to, is that some people just don't want to stay at the top of the food chain. it's something think about. just my opinion.
Bon "i can't say i agree with a big dog hanging out the window from the drivers lap, but if thats what that person wants to do...then it isn't my place to tell them they can't. last i knew this was AMERICA."
Going buy your reasoning there I guess we should have no laws? Just let people abuse their dogs, let people smoke crack all day long, let people rob stores, let people murder other people, let people rape people, let people drive drunk..etc.
I mean as long as they are doing what they want we shouldn't say anything to them. Right? We should have no laws? Right? Just let everyone do as they wish whenever they wish? Right? I don't think so...
wow people get bent out of shape. no, what im saying is, that as long as it isn't infringing upon anyone elses rights, it shouldn't be a big deal. and i don't argee with animal abuse...and there are laws in place for that. what im getting at is why tell people how to live thier own personal lives? you need to look at the 1st amendment of the constitution.
Im sorry if I sounds like I don't love dogs I do. I had to put my dog down in the field after a major injury hunting and that was very hard. I breed dogs because I love and care for all dogs. I think we just differ on our attitude this world. I sorry I don't agree with the idea that we are just stupid animals I believe we have a bigger purpose here. I think there are cruel people that mistreat animals and they should be dealt with on an individual basis. Not with with a broad brush by passing stupid ineffective feel good laws that take away freedom of choice.

I am a child of the 70's I can remember as a child STANDING in the middle of the front seat of our car. Mom and grandma SMOKING on both sides of me. I lived. Granted, would have probably been bad if we were in an accident. I might not have lived, but people also die in serious car accidents with their seatbelts on too.
I do NOT wear a seatbelt most of the time. Unless my husband is around nagging me or if I am driving somewhere there are a lot of cops around. We have one boxer that rides with me every day to drop off and pick up my son from school. She loves to ride. I don't think she would even want to come if I strapped her in ever time.
As for the other laws, I definately don't support PAWS or VA's breeding ban. Most people don't realize that the big puppymills are ALREADY 100% regulated by USDA, and THEY are FINE with puppymill conditions. USDA makes sure they have bare MINIMUM standards... what PAWS is really about is more FEES for licenses and to make sure everyone is paying taxes on all the puppy money the are making. I am not fooled. Putting smaller, home breeding out of business just SUPPORTS puppymills.
As far as abuse laws, the majority is already handled on a LOCAL level. It is called (by different names) Animal Control, and local police. Unfortunatly some areas are not tough enough on truely terrible or cruel owners.
But...If you kill a CHILD you do not get the time you would for killing an adult. Children are worth less. One 2 year old child was beaten to death by a meth-head live in boyfriend... tortured and killed, 3 things could have actually caused death by the cracked skull, internal bleeding in his stomach or the sock shoved down his throat sufficating him. That &$^%*$%^ got 7 years. Only 7 years!
Another 3 year old was killed by step mom. She kicked him in to a wall so hard he died of a brain hemorrage. She got 8 years for MANSLAUGHTER. Do that to an adult...life. Both happened with in 2 years in the county I worked for. We have a lot of things in our society that are messed up.
I do not believe that TN has this new dog restraint law. I am guilty of letting Doodle just sit in my lap or the passenger sit when she rides with me. How would I get her to stay in a seatbelt? Is there something I could buy? She is small so I am sure she would be able to get out of a seat belt by itself.. I want everyone who rides in my car to be safe. I just never thought about buckling up my dog before. But will do it now, just need to know where to get something to do it.
Just about 2 weeks ago in Michigan a dog jumped out of the owners car window on the service drive in ended up going through someones winshield and the dog was killed. Now I dont use seatbelts but I do close the leash in the door so Baylee can move but not enough to hurt himself or get me in an accident.
out hunting...mostlikely in a rural area far from a vet office. i just can't picture running down a street with hunting dogs and packing a shotgun hollerin' "go get'em boys!" (unless they were police dogs during a foot persuit) the dog may not have made it to the vet anyways due to extreme injuries. i don't see the problem with ending the animals suffering. people jump to conclusions, and like to make personal attacks.

I admit I am guilty of not restraining my Westie pup. I'm going to find some kind of restraint for her when she goes in the car from now on though.
As for a LAW demanding that dogs be restrained? I don't agree. I wear a seat belt all the time & when I was growing up I didn't. But there are a heck of a lot more people on the roads now then there were in the 60's & there is much more danger for people & pets.
No its not a personal attack it is an opinion. And for that fact about 20 years ago we up north hunting and my grandmothers 9 year old mutt was shot by a hunter nobody thaught he would make it HMMM did they put a rifle to his head, no he went on on an hour trip to a vet and lived one limb shy but he lived.
foxfurlover, you made this statement : . Don't you think a human baby is more important and should be afforded more right than a silly little dog. Dog are property and always should. if thats is really how you feel , then so be it. but it is NOT how all of us here feel. my dogs ARE my children. i raised 6 kids. they are grown now. hubby and i are loving and pampering people. we love our children and grandchildren, but we do not see them often, as some are living in another state and others have busy lives. our frenchies have become our children. we love them as if they were. we do not consider them as being property or as being silly. they are our babies. the loves of our lives. and certainly just as important as all our other family members.
dusty I can understand how much you love your dogs, But I know if my mother told me that her little "frenchies" were just as important to her as I was, I think I would be heartbroken. How could someone be so cruel......?

That brings up a point... I love my dogs, a lot, but I don't think of them on the same level as people. They are not.
You could pick my favorite dog I have EVER owned put a gun to her head. Then take a starving child of any race or culture that I have never met in my life, put a gun to his/her head. Ask me to choose.... it wouldn't be a choice. I would save the child hands down without hesitation. To me anyone that didn't is sick and needs to be around people more.
But when you put it this way like Fox said, it makes sense
" dusty I can understand how much you love your dogs, But I know if my mother told me that her little "frenchies" were just as important to her as I was, I think I would be heartbroken. How could someone be so cruel......? "
