I'm confused...I've read that the time span to keep an e-collar on after spay/neuter was one week, but some are speaking of longer times...Is this because of vets using different procedures?...ours says the stitches will dissolve in one week...does it sometimes take longer?.wondering too...I've heard people say that they really baby them during this period...just wondering if anyone has any tips..I have two min pins...

Baxter wore his e collar about 24 hours my vet did NOT do any stitches when he was neutered. We watched him and he's rarely alone so it wasn't an issue for us. I plan to schedule Sam's neutering this week and plan to bring the e collar we have so I dont get charged for another one "just in case" My vet really pushes babying them when they're not feeling 100% but, honestly, my guys are spoiled every day so doing anything extra wasn't possible.
Our 10yr old ACD was neurtered this week. He didn't have an e-collar. The vet said to use campho-phenic (sp) if he started to lick himself. I picked him up from the vets on Friday and he hasn't messed with it at all. He acts just fine, our vet also said for him to have limited activity. Mom and grandma are keeping two of the other dogs so he would have more of our time. He has never been a big baby, just a very tough dog.
