I've seen what overpopulation of deer can look like, tiny, skeletal mangy looking does followed by a raggedy fawn thats so much smaller than it should be. I've seen numbers of these poor furry skeletons hanging around roads and homes, so hungry their not even afraid anymore, they'll practically walk up to you. Population control is not about playing God, its about rectifying a situation thats been caused by our own overpopulation. I would rather these poor creatures be shot then starve to death, would you want to starve to death?
Something that I don't think a lot of urban or suburban dwellers raelize is that in more rural areas lots of people hunt for sustinance, they need the meat to makeit, hunt in the winter and fish in the summer and thats how they feed their families. Decades ago even city people had their own little flock of chickens for eggs and meat, my granfather did. We are hunter gatherers, hunting is normal and there's nothing wrong with it. Hey you want to distance yourself form the killing and cleaning and buy neat pieces of disinfected meat in plastic thats fine, but not everyone chooses that path.
Next time you get a chance to drive thru a truly beautiful wild area, a state park or game lands, and see a regal buck, or a turkey and her chicks, or ducks swimming on a pure clean lake, you better stop a second and thank a hunter. Hunters work to save and protect and conserve more than you can possibly imagine, they do not hunt to destroy they hunt to conserve and build and better whats out there. All people ever see is that hunters kill things, they don't see alll the work and time donated every year by hunt/gun clubs/organizations to better the forest/game areas/clean them up/stock the lakes/streams/manage the populations that ultimately benefit the entire forest ecosystem. But oh no, their killers and freaks and trophy hunters, anyone who truly thinks that doesn't have a clue. Go to a slaughterhouse and see what happens to that chicken before it ends up in the plastic baggies that you buy.
Amen to that brother! Department of Natural resources aross the nation is funded by hunters, not activist that are against hunting so who does what for animal welfare! There are more duck hunters saving wet lands then there are animal welfare charities.(sticking out tounge!)

I personally could never bring myself to hurt an animal.
I think TROPHY hunting is wrong, disgusting and horrible. However, a person who hunts for food and does use the whole animal, in my opinion, is fine. I donít think hunting for population control is right.
Why canít we hunt people? People do far more damage and are well over populated.
No, I donít think hunting for population control is right. Wolves in Alaska are hunted for that reason, so the moose population doesnít go down for hunters to hunt. How is that right? Kill wolves so there are more moose to kill.
Not that I like wolves or anything, Iím just giving an example.
There wouldn't be a problem with animals coming in and digging through trash if we didn't take all their land away...

I don't hunt;I love to see animals in the wild...don't understand how anyone could kill an animal, but would not argue the right those of you who feel differently to do so....not on my land though! What I am opposed to is some of the very inhumane or unsportsman types of killing..ex trapping, baiting, the killing of some species just to kill...and allowing fawns, moose calves and bear cubs to be part of the bounty. I also feel that I should have a right not to see the deer, moose and bear hanging out of a truck or in the front yard. This is as horrible to me as it would be to see a dog or a cat body displayed in this way...
No, we dont need to hunt to survive we can just go to the local grocery store and by processed food and pollute our bodies.Either way we'll live ,just like feeding your dog cheap dog food , they'll eat it and live but is it good for them. I personally dont know any kill joy hunters that just go for a head to hang on the wall. Not saying a 10 pt. Buck isnt lovely but the meat from all the deer I know that have been shot is eaten. As far as population comtrol....I guess you think we should let nature take its course and let the wildlife kill each other off. For example. We have just started getting coyotes in SC. They have no natural pred. here except man. Well they eat just about anything and our ground bird population, quail and such are just about non-existant now. Not only that but we've seen an increase in rabies because they carry rabies and spread it to other animals and speaking of which they breed with domestic dogs making that another topic. But they've spread canine distemper and other dieases to our pets, Our fox population is dwindling too because of coyotoes. The list just goes on and on why we have to have wild life management. I would not like to live in the world where you just let nature take its course because it wouldnt be a pretty site.Somethings gotta give. God did not make me the top of the food chain, because it would only take a tiny spider one bite to kill me ,so I dont hunt to prove I'm superior. I hunt because it's my God given right and as long as i'm ethical and responsible I don't have a guilty conscience doing it no matter what anyone elses opinion is.

"Why canít we hunt people? People do far more damage and are well over populated."
LOL I agree with you there Wolf. Animals are not nearly as destructive to the environment or nasty to each other as humans are. They kill simply for a meal - survival. Many humans, on the other hand are just sick; evidence for this can be read in each day's newspaper.
Actually...it's almost becoming necessary to hunt if you want meat. All I hear about is problems with the cow industry, diseases, etc. Elk and deer seem healthier to me. We're not feeding them steroids and dosing them up on antibiotics. I don't feel guilty for hunting for food at all. I think it would be sick to hang an animal's head on my wall though...what's the point in that?
I agree with you also, Wolf. ' Humankind' is too quick to complain about the wildlife overtaking 'their' environment...we are the ones invading the wilderness and building a shopping mall on every corner...American motto is now a store every few feet instead of a "chicken in every pot" lol. It is a proven fact that Americans consume much more protein than they are required to for good nutrition and that this is often the cause of many of the digestive problems that humans suffer. We all have our opinions and beliefs; I like the Native American philosophy of thanking the spirit of the animal and using every part possible. They truly needed to use animal flesh to survive and respected what nature provided them. We kill, abuse, pollute, destroy and overuse all the natural things on the earth with reckless abandon and........sorry,but many hunters kill for the thrill of the kill not for sport, necessity or preventing the animals from overpopulating and starving. Birth control for all living creatures is the only solution.... ;)
Lets all live as one and invite the termites in to munch on our home. Please......Humans are animals and our first instint is to survive and reproduce, So hunting or not the human species will wreck havoic on society in one way or another . We just happened to evolve to a point that it's self destuctive and i dont think eating meat as protein or farming beans for it will make a differance, we're still having to deal with other forms of life we have to destroy to get the produce. so kill rodents, bugs, and take up ecosystems to farm or kill a deer for protein it's still a life form,if you really want to be technical. So like I said its our God given right so as long as you do it in a responsible manner , whos to tell you its wrong. To each his own.
First Foosdog..I don't know who that PETA comment was directed toward. But I will say that I myself don't agree with much of what PETA does.
Second if you want to hunt and do it responsbile and use as much of the meat as possible..then so be it. Its just not something I find appealing thats all.
Third...No I don't own leather products. I find the thought of wearing some animals skin (with or without fur) disgusting and distasteful. But if you are fine with it more power to you. But there are many faux fur products out there that look the same. And i am told it feels just like real fur.
Again this is just my opinion man/woman is feel to do what they feel is right.
I doubt I'm one of those humans that eats too much protein. I have meat once a day for dinner and that's it. Most of the time it's chicken or fish. A couple times a week we have elk. 1 Elk lasts us 1 year. It's not like I'm going out there slaughtering 100's of them.
Think the PETA was directed at me and that's ok. I don't like to argue and, as I said in my first post,I don't argue anyone's right to hunt if they chose. I eat fish, chicken, beef etc, so saying hunting is wrong would be hypocritical and that's not what I said. I'll do what I can to help preserve the natural, continue to love seeing animals in the wild and in the pasture and limit my intake of meat and you all do what you like and I won't think any less of you or call you names. Enuf on this subject for me! ;) PS: soybeans and tofu aren't that bad! AND...how come none of you commented on my right not to see your animal bodies hanging from the tree in your front yard or out of the pickup truck?
