I have a long coat Chihuahua is about 4 mounts old and has a curly coat. I have two other long coat Chihuahua and have never seen a puppy with curly in its fur like this. Wonder if any one else has, and if it is a rare trait.
But did you own their parents? Could have had something slip in there somewhere? I've never heard of this happening. Chihuahuas have only two coat types, so..... But anyway, yes you can post pics on the forum. Go to a website called photobucket.com. Make an account. Then you can start uploading pics. ONce the photo is uploaded, there will be 3 urls under the pic. Choose the first tag, copy it, and paste it here in your post.
He is the third generation of Chihuahuas that I have owned. Not to say that some other breed has been slipped in there some were back a ways. his father is a short coat and has a waviness to his coat but no curls.
I dont see where a mix had to have taken place..maybe just a little genetic fluke took place and now you have a beautiful puppy! I've seen long haired chi's with a little wave before , when the puppy hair grows out it may change too.
The Black and tan dog is his grandmother, the other dogs are cousins and great-aunt. His coat looks shorter than it is because of the curl. Made him look very fluffy at that age. I don't have any new pictures of him yet to post. To me his coat looks not as long as hers. His father is what I think you are calling a ruff coat (mid length). Thanks for saying he is cute, very nice of you to take the time to say that. I have thought about their being something else in the mix, but it would have to be back a ways. I looked at the Chihuahua Club of America bread standard a bit ago and it say a little curl is permissible. But never saw a Chihuahua that had a real curl before this pup.
AW, he is precious! But the last link you gave isn't a pic. Yes a wave would be normal...and that is what it looks like there, but you say it's a full curl now? Well, if you know your dog's pedigree and don't see how there could be a mistake..don't know what to say! He's beautiful, and though I'm sure you're beyond curious why his coat is curly, it doesn't matter. He just probably shouldn't be bred. Such a cutie though!

I wouldn't worry too much about his coat being wavy or curly. He's only 6 weeks old? It takes time for their coats to mature. Give him a few weeks and see how he looks. He's very precious no matter how his coat turns out.
Thanks for all the nice comments. The last linkof a picture I posted works when I click on it on my end. I had not planned on breeding him. But the curl in his fur would not stop me in and of it's self, unless is was link to some health problem. I like the curl my self and like like more like it, and was wondering if there was more Chihuahuas with his kind of coat out there. It might be a new mutation, and he is it, and could be something that has a link to some health risks, its a bit of crap shoot I guess.
