About a week ago my husband made a deal with my little girl. So she held up her end now she gets any puppy she wants after we move. She wants a small dog with longer hair. can you recomend a small dog with longer hair that is good with kids?
I looked at thouse and I thingk she would like them but my husband would say no.
Growing up I had a chocolate colorerd cocker spianal and she was so sweet but when we moved to missouri my step dad decited he was not going to pay to get her hair cut she got matts real bad (he decited she had to stay out side even though she had been inside her whole life befor my mom and him got married) finaly he decited to get her hair cut and 2 days later she died. She was fine and all of a sudden she didnt look well and died on the way to the vet.
A few years later I started to date my husband and we got a blond cocker from some lady that was moving. She said he was very well behaved but was not goo with babys. Later that day he freaked out and started to bite people. We was good most of the time but bit my thigh when i picked up his bowl (i had a nasty bruse for weeks). It was odd he always jumped up between your legs when he would go to bite you and most of the time it was totaly random. the only time it didnt seem so random was when he got my thigh. Now he hates spainels.
I have a shih tzu and my parents do as well. Our dogs have the best tempraments. You can do anything to them and they don't care. Pick them up, brush them, bathe them, tossle on the floor with them. Never heard either one of them growl once. Besides that, for a small dog, they are compact and sturdy. No worries about breaking a leg while jumping off the sofa.
But brushing daily/or frequent short haircuts are definately required.
My mom has one of those. Hes so dumb I dont know whats up with that dog you cant train the thing to do anything but potty out side. It will not walk on a leash with out triping you he wont sit or stay or anything. If you try to get him to do something he gives you a dumb look. Ive seen the breed in shows and My friend has some but I have never seen one that looked like it was dumb.
Ill have to take hubby to looka t some nice looking ones though. After seeing my moms and my friends he does not like them. My moms looks dumb (not ugly but the look on his face says hello im stupid) and my friends need a good hair cut and a bath.
Oh in dog shows they ahve stright hair but all the ones i have seen in real life have currly hair. Do they strighten the hair for the show or whats going on with the curlly hair from the ones i have seen? All the ones i have seen have papers from AKC so they are shih-tzus but there hair looks diffrent

A yorkie sounds good not sure though i have herd bad storys about them being pups. Like a child will set them down wrong and hurt them ebcause they are so small and can be hurt easly. I know my kids wont step on a dog or through it or hold it to tight or anything. Can you realy huirt them that easly or was that just BS?
Yes, you can. Kids can step on them, drop them, or the dogs, themselves can jump off something that is too high and break a leg. They have to be supervised when they're pups. Its probably less risk after they've matured.
What about a bichon or a mix. They are not as small, but very merry, happy playful dogs.
I have never seen one look like my moms. Hes cute dont get me wrong he has this funny little tail and his hiar is this cool looking gray. But something about his face. Its a cute face but its like he knows nothing.
My friend has some and they have the same nose and everything but they dont have a dumb look on there face. Hes just diffrent.
I dont know what we will end up getting.
Im not even sure exactly what we are looking for yeat. She wants small with long hair Im fine with just about anything as long as everyone in the house is happy.
I have been thinking about a bichon shihtzu mix. My friend has one she is giving away (she was breeding them but decited not to any more) Problem is one day she was telling me all this bad stuff about her then the next day she was like Oh you can have her shes real sweet. I dont know if she was just mad at the dog that day or if she wants to get rid of the dog that bad. If we did take her I would ahve to take her to a good groomer befor huby even saw her. Right now shes not the best looking dog (to be honest shes not even close to the millionth best looking dog) and telling hubby you want a ratty funny looking dog is not something you want to do.
The more i talk about him and dogs the more i start to think about how odd he realy is
They all look bad ungroomed. And if you go to a crummy breeder, you're gonna get crossed eyes, eyelid problems, underbites, pinched nostrils. OMG, you have to be careful with these small popular breeds that everybody is breeding these days. I've seen some pretty ugly shih tzus, too. They're being overbred, at least where I live.
My aunt has one Ive only seen pictures of it but I almost died laughing. She said He cost so much because he was a toy shih-tzu and the guy told her he is the best looking one he had ever seen so she brings him home and sends me pictures. the dogs eyes were not only crossed out (like looking out instead of in) it looked like they were going to fal out of its head. I felt bad for the dog but at the same time I was laughing because i had never seen a dog that ugly. It looked like someone beat it in the head with something untill it messed up its eyes.
How long does it take to groom a shih-tzu? I figured you brush it every day and it would be find but my mom couldnt keep hers from looking nappy even if she did brush him every day. at first she ran a brush through his hair a few times and i would get mad (she was living with me at the time) and take the brush from her and yell at her wile brushing his hair because she didnt get all the tangles but even after she started to brush him real good he got ratty. I think they look better with longer hair so if i did get one I would like it to have longer hair. Plus i know my little girl would want to put bows in its hair. Shes a "cail girl". You know on tv they make girls from cali out to be girly with these small dogs with bows and such. thats my little girl. Shes very girl she tells people shes a cali girl (we live in missouri) she wants to have a little bag to carry her dog in. So of corse what ever small dog she gets has to have bows in its hair.

how about a west highland white terrier?(check it out on in the dog breed menu to the left) it doesn't have really long hair but it's not short eaither. VERY cute and says it's good with kids of all ages. i know that might be my next choice for a dog, when that time comes(i won't have more than 2 dogs at a time). anyways good luck in your quest.
If you're going to let the hair grow, you need just to brush it daily and bathe it frequently. (average every two weeks) You have to trim the fur between the pads about every month, and the rest is like any other dog. Matts are a bit of a problem until they get their adult coat, so keeping a puppy short can make things easier. You can keep the body shorter and let the hair up on the head grow long enough for ponytails , but your little girl isn't going to be the one putting the rubber bands in, I can tell you that . Getting a rubber band on a squirmy dog is hard for me, sometimes. And as far as bows, they hate them and pull them out, anyway.
You do realize that the maintenance will be done by you, right? She'll be tired of it after two weeks.
