Purchase a kiddy pool (plastic) and keep filled with water. There is a product called Mars Coat King. It will get rid of MUCH hair and make it easier. Don't shave the dog. They need the hair to protect themselves. But the Mars King will take some bulk out. Shade cloth can be purchased at "home stores" knocks about 80% of the rays and keeps a shaddy spot for dogs. Can build a stand type to "shade" over the new doggie pool Taylor
I have always been advised not to shave a dog in the summer. Keep the coat brushed and do the pool and ice cubes. A dogs' coat protects it from the sun. Your dog could get a sunburn if you shave it. http://www.healthypet.com/FAQ/animal_care-24.html This link is about what to do for a malamute in the summer
you can also purchase cool blankets from the pet magazines. i bought a kiddie pool and they love it. also the ice is good. some dogs cant be shaved because then they would get sunburned. you can have groomed a little shorter but not shaved.
We have a Huskey mix and we shaved her and it looked so horrible! We are never doing that again. And, she was sheading more than ever when we shaved her, because we totally exposed her dense, soft underlayer of hair, and got rid of the rough top coat. Don't shave your dog, it's not worth it. Kiddie pools are a lot better.
I have several large square plastic jugs that came with disinfectant in (perhaps 2 gallon). I rinsed them very well before I used them. I fill them nearly full and put 2 in my freezer. When they are frozen I take one out each morning if the weather is hot, replace it with one that is not frozen, then put the frozen one in an old pillow protector. My dogs lay on them, or up against them, they seem to really enjoy them.
