Hi, I am a former Marine who just got out looking to own a Great dane in Jacksonville, NC. Was wondering if anybody could tell me any info on where to start looking and such. I have owned it the past, but that was before I went into the service. I am now stable here in NC, I already have a Lab mix pup, who is the sweetest thing ever. Im currently looking for anthor pup, under 2 yrs. to take its place in my loving home. I can afford to pay 300 fo one. If anyone has any info they can give me, would be greatly appreciated. I always "buckshot8338" at Yahoo. so please reach me when you can. thanks so much.
I would try a rescue organizations. There are many that specialize in certain breeds. Like greyhounds and such... Try www.petfinder.com to start. I know great dane puppies are very expensive (a lot more than $300 I've heard). But the older ones (full grown, when people realize how big they acutally can get) always need a good home! Good luck! Keep us updated in your search!
Try to stay away from the Merles, for they only live a short time. Less than the Fawns, Blacks, and Harlequins. I have to put my girl down this weekend. She has made it to be 6yrs old. I understand it's normally 3-4 yrs. Her hips are so bad and she is in soo much pain, it is time. Her brother, who is a litter behind her and black, will surely be lost! Me too!!!
I had great danes growing up and they did not live long either. 9 years tops (black). Also, they were not good around other dogs. I had a poodle that they were jelous of and almost killed her. I like danes but now that Ive got a family I would not have one around my children.
