Hi I am a breeder of Miniature Schnauzersa and I have never heard of a Calico and No they are not AKC the only ones they register are black, black & silver, salt & pepper, white only with 2 photos sent along with application on the white.at least that I am aware of.
I have heard the "Phantom" described as 2 different things. One is sort of a ghostly grey/white coloring and the other is a black & silver that is very bold. Rilo's breeder called him a "Phantom" when we were first talking. I didn't let it make my decision though, I knew I wanted a black & silver and I made my choice on coloring before I even spoke to her. I think certain breeders try to make their dogs seem "rare" and "special" by giving the colors certain names. Partis & livers were once recognized but at the very beginning of the Schnauzer history. Now, like stated, the only recognized ones are black, salt & pepper, black & silver and white. However, you can register your Parti & Liver colors still, you have to get special codes for the color but they are not able to be shown or recognized as breeding stock.
