hello again... is there a age that a puppy should be fixed by? i took my bichi-poo pup in for his puppy check and i asked and he said his testicles havent droped yet but could be around 6 months would be good. he siad unless for some reason i need it done sooner? do they do it sooner? im just wondering i want to get him fixed asap there is no other dogs that this is a factor for i just think having him fixed is the best thing to do. mu husband doesnt want to get him fixed he thinks he might want to breed him but i told him the things ive learned on many sites that he isnt a pure breed and why would he want to breed him? bentleys mom is a pure breed white bichon and the dad is a grey toy poodle .you only get a bichi-poo from a first generation liter? i dont know if i worded that right but say i breed a bichi-poo and a anther bichi-poo i really wouldnt get a bichi-poo? in some ways but isnt a bichi-poo 2 pure breeds mixed to make this designer dog? we paid 400.00 for him from this breeder that breeds these bichi-poos and also pure toy poodles very very friendly and smart dogs. and the cutest thing ever. does anyone know obout rebreeding a bichi-poo dog? so i can relay this back to my husband i guess the way i worded it to him he said didnt make since.. dont worry this is my little guy and he will be fixed wether i sneak him out to do it..lol i dont think it will come to that but i dont think he understands. thanks again.. theresa and yes i know my dog isnt a pure breed dog but he was breed for this mix and i seen all papers and his parents and i know hes considered a mutt really, a exspensive one at that. any help would be appreciated.

bichons are not grey ... they are only white so are you sure his parent was a pure bred grey bichon ?
between the age of 6-8 months is the recommended time for neutering.
if ou breed a bichipoo to another bichipoo you will not get more bichi poos you will likely get pups that look either like a poodle or a bichon but you will not replicate your dog. an intact male can be a very difficult animal to live with as a pet. when a female in the area goes in heat the male can go off food for awhile, they tend to mark everywhere they go, their personalities can change when an in heat female is around. aggression can also be a problem in an unneuitered male. its a lot to think about.
hi sorry i got it mixed up the mother is the white bichon and the father is a grey toy poodle. when i typed it it didnt look right.. but yes they both are pure breed and registered. they say its good to have him fixed before he starts lifting his leg to go to the bathroom? so at 6 months he wont be doing this yet? thanks for the help and sorry obout the confustion..lol theresa
I think you worded it correctly, you said Bentley's mom was a pure white Bichon and the father was a gray poodle. I am no expert but this is what I have been told by my vet. I have a Bichon Frise/Westie mix and I asked him about getting him fixed at 3 months, this is what we did with our other dog, Buddy, which was a Collie/Golden Retreiver mix. Our vet for Buddy said if we did it at three months he would not lift his leg so we did and he didn't lift his leg. He was a wonderful dog! We had him 13-1/2 yrs and had to put him to sleep. That vet has since retired so we have a new vet and I asked him about this for Cody, a m uch smaller dog, he told me that they prefer to wait until smaller dogs are 6 months old, I think the reason is because their organs are so small they like to wait till they are more developed. We waited and everything is fine. Cody doesn't lift his leg much, but once in a while when we are out on a walk he will lift. Here is a pic of Cody taken Jan., 2006. He is 1-1/2 yrs old here. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a366/cherylrihn/Cody/ja23_009.jpg
Sorry, just saw where you had edited before I read it.

Thank you Scout, we think so too! ! I'm not a proud mama or anything. I'm that way about my human boys and they are in their mid 20's. They make fun of me fussing over Cody but ya know what, I catch them doing the same thing! It is awesome to see them fussing with Cody..
