My Dogue de Bordeaux is now 115 pounds at 10 months old and he refuses to let me trim his nails. He freaks out whenever I touch his paws. I have never clipped his quick or done anything to hurt him but he just won't let me clip them anymore. I'm thinking I need to take him somewhere but I don't think even a groomer will be able to hold him down. Do I take him to the vet and if so will they need to sedate him??? He needs a trim soon!! Thanks!!
You'd be surprised how quickly a groomer or vet asst. can get it done. It may take one to hold & one to trim, but they've got it down to a science.
I have a little 7 lb Chinese Crested who used to turn into SUPER DOG when I got the nail trimmers out...he'd scream before you even touched him. I use a dremel now and it works so much better for us. He still puts up a fuss, but nothing like with the trimmers.
Take him to the vet or groomer.I have a 128lb rottie that hates his nails touched too. They handle him just fine with a muzzle and one person laying on him and the other trimmming the nails.Has this just started rescently?? It could be due to his fear stage that his age gets
Yes, this has just started. I tried to clip them about a month ago and he was throwing a fit then but I just wrestled him down and did it, but was he mad!!! So this time he went crazy when I got the clippers and touched his paw. I can't hold him down and I don't want to hurt him so I'll just take him in. What is the fear stage you are talking about, never heard of it.
you would be suprised how many dogs that won't cooperate when you trim their nails at home, but if you take them out of their environment they are less combative about it. Go to the vet or groomer, they are experienced in doing it and usually have additional help to hold them
