Some of you might know i have a bullmastiff called Rocky(I am not on here that often) About 4 hours ago he was attacked by another dog(A Staff) My husband was walking him around the block when this dog flew out of someones front door and attached its self to Rockys face. Rocky is a big dog but also a big softie. He tried desprately to get this other dog off but couldn't. My husband had to throw himself over this dog and prise his jaws apart. Its owner stood by and did nothing. I have just got back from the vet where Rocky has had stitches to his face. My husband is still at the hospital now. (He needs stitches too) .As my husband walked away from these people they did not even have the decency to call after my husband to see if he was ok(or Rocky) . They swore at him instead because he tried to defend Rocky. I have called the police who are coming later. I am worried it could be a child next time. It seems like the dog was trained to fight. He was really vicious.

Some people are idiots!!I hope your husband and Rocky are ok. I would get an attorney they did not even ask if anyone was ok and swearing on top of it that really makes me sick. Some people have no compation at all.
My husband is back from hospital and he has had a tetanus and 8 stitches in his hand. The police haven't been yet.Rocky is very quite at the moment. He has squashed himself up and gone asleep on the bathroom floor. He has never done that before. I have just noticed also that his paw is sore. He has to go back thursday, so the vet can look at it then. he has had painkillers so he should be ok.
Oh it is good to hear that they are doing better. I hope there isn't a next time! The owners need to know that they are responsible for their dogs behavior. Good luck! I am glad that you are reporting the incident.
get pictures ! of both hubbys and rockys wounds. if you take them to court and you should, you will need them as they could be healed up by the time you go before a judge. if it had been you instead of hubby, you and rocky may not have faired as well as they did. because the dog attacked your dog and not your hubby, he is probably dog aggressive and not human aggressive. but it is the fault of the dog owner that the attack happened and they need to take responsibility for it. hopefully your hubby and rocky both have a full and speedy recovery.
I am a bit worried though, because my husband does want to take them to court, but i am afraid of reprucussions because this family are what you call scumbags! I know that sounds horrible but they are always causing trouble. Revving cars, moter bikes, drinking and swearing. They are not nice people. But my hubby is scared of no one and is determined that they should be held responsible(so do i but i am scared).
I would try to stick them with the vet bills. I think they are responsible since their dog attacked. That is a terrible thing. I can't imagine if that had happened to me with my small dogs. You are also right that it could happen to a small child and be devastating.
It is ignorant people like that that have vicious dogs. They don't know how to train them and some thinks it great to have a tough dog.
Hope everyone will be okay. Your husband did great prying them apart. That is a dangerous thing to try.
get a restraining order right away. even before you seek legal action. have a tape recorder always handy in case they make any threats. these kinds of people use intimidation tactics. they will only cause as much trouble as they are allowed to get away with. you just have to be one step ahead of them. i feel sorry for the dog. he has probably been taught by his owners to be the way he is. god only knows how he is treated behind closed doors to make him like he is. but if the owners are not taking this seriously, the next time could be fatal for someone elses beloved pet.
Dusty, Everything you have said is exactly what my husband said. He thinks this dog has been trained to attack. It is really sad. I have been past this house loads of times but i have never seen this dog before. My husband thinks he must be chained up out the back most of the time. They have small children themselves so they should be worried about them. The dog did not growl or bark he just flew out of the door and attached himself. I am glad it wasn't me holding Rocky.
AW! I am so sorry! Your poor babies!!! That is horrible. I would call animal control. Has someone already said that? Whatever the issue is, if it's the dogs or the owners, this situation needs to be alerted to Animal control. The dog bit a person and this needs to be documented.
That is terrible what you must be going through. Defiantlly call animal control!!!! They will access the situation and help you through the process and they will be witness to you in court. They may even confiscate the pittbull so you wont have to worry about it being a menance any more.
Take picures , call cops, animal controll and go to court!! Dont let these bad pitt owners make our bully breeds suffer. They should be prosecuted to the fullest!! And I hope you all recover with no permanant damage. Sad sad.
Puddin ,i'm so sorry for your dog. I have to clarify ,with Pits aka Am Staffs ,never confuse human aggression with animal aggression. This dog was basically doing what it's natural instincts told it to do,simply fight. Some Pits are so dog aggressive (like my Tigger, who would fly out of a door and fight and kill another dog if we let her) , to pussy cats who wont do nothing. This is not the dogs fault ,but the owners who allowed this to happen. With Tigger we watch her like a hawk to make she wont hurt another strange animal.
Poor Rocky. (and hubby) I know what you mean about what to do. If you press charges you never know what people like that might do. I would be afraid they might poison my dog or burn my house down or who knows. At the same time they sure don't need to get by with it. I know you will make the right decission. It will be hard to know what to do, good luck.
I'm sorry. I wish you the best of luck. I would not know what to do either. I know you have to hold them responsible but what if they do something bad to you. I'd be worried too. They are scum and have nothing to lose. Let's just pray that they move.
Thank you to everybody. Its really great to know that there are people out there that really care. The police came last night and have taken a statement and we are going to proceed to court. Rocky is still really shaken up. He keeps whimpering and he looks really down. He has got to go back to the vet tomorrow. My husband is still really angry and he has told me not to worry. (but i still will i know i will) I don't know weather they know where we live yet, but it won't be hard for them to find out. Rocky and our other dog misty are well known around here so they have only got to ask about. I keep expecting a knock on the door.I know its not that poor dogs fault. Its the stupid owners. All the young kids have these breed of dog because its like a trophy. We are responsible dog owners and people like this give ALL dog owners a bad name.
I am so sorry that happened to Rocky & your husband. All the suggestions that the members have given have been right on...I love this forum! Also, if the case does go to court, you should try to get copies of your husband's medical records from the hospital/clinic where he was treated. Those will give details of the injury, which along with the pictures shuld give a pretty strong case against the uneducated owners. I hope everything works out ok...keep us posted!
