As I posted before, Merphy stopped eating his Eukanuba food. He is also almost a year, so I decided to do the switch to adult and premium food. I went to a pet store that was far away from me and they suggested Eagle Pack or Innova. I bought some Innova dry food, and they gave me some Eagle Pack samples, but it was cat food. So, I've been mixing the Innova dry, with whats left of the Eukanuba dry...and no wet food. He still hasn't been excited about his food, but stares longingly when Benji gets his wet food.
So, I went to the feed store a couple blocks away and picked up some Innova canned food to try to ween him slowly. The guy there suggested their store brand premium food. He says its made with chicken and lamb meal and human grain brown rice, no wheat, corn, fillers or by-products. Its called Kahoots Premium Dog Food.
Has anyone heard of this, and if so, how does it compare to Innova? He gave me some samples and Merphy ate it.
I also discovered Kahoots Premium (Lamb) by chance. My one-year old female Bolonka (Tsvetnaya Bolonka) puppy was very fussy and refused to eat dry food although at one time she really liked Royal Canin puppy food. A salesman in a Kahoots store gave me a sample which she ate with enthusiasm. This is now her primary diet, but I still continue to feed her small quantities of quality beef and chicken "people food" whenever we prepare it for ourselves. Although my preference would be to feed my Bolonka organic food I find that Kahoots is a good compromise.
I now have mine on Addiction - Wild Kangaroo & Apple. He loves it, scarfs it down. I love it, its from New Zealand, so I don't have to worry about recalls as much. I also add raw organic carrots to his food...he thinks its candy. I could be wrong, cuz its been a while, but I think the Kahoots food had some byproducts in it, so I quit with that.
Even if you are on the right track, you will still get run over if you just sit there. (Will Rogers)
I just started Kayla (11wks) on the Innova puppy food. (canned) I heat it and mix it with her Eukanuba puppy food and she loves it. I have never heard of Kahoots. Mine will not eat Eagle Pac or Welliness.
I feed Innova. I really wish they would get wise and make small bites in the big bags, LOL. My yorkie can not eat any of the bigger kibbles anymore. My friend said she saw a new food at Costco the other day (Costco brand) which sounds very much like the healthwise, but I think she said the one she saw has a 27% protein level, which is too high for me. She's looking into it. Has anyone else looked into this one? There is also the karma (innova company I believe), which is organic, we have a customer that orders it for her golden for health reasons, except that out of the last like 6 bags (larger), 2 were or went bad (quickly).I wonder if it may have been the batch, or if anyone has seen this problem alot? I really don't want to switch, and probably won't since I think Innova is the best, but it's getting expensive to have to buy two of the 15 pounders all the time (every week) just to equal the one bag I used to buy, and I don't even pay full retail.
If your Yorkie likes Evo, he might like Orijen, which is rated the same except the kibble is much smaller. In fact it's so small my little hogs have it flying out of their mouths. Just a suggestion. Oops, I just read your post again and you said 27% protein is to high. Orijen would be way to high then.
