i have been considering getting a pom for sometime now. i have one question though. i know that any dog can have this problem at sometime i was just wondering if pomeranians have it more often... do they get poop stuck in there hair around their bum all the time?
sorry i know that it is nasty but need to know...thanks
My two girls I give a little sani path to, all that is is trimming there hair on there butt area every couple of months or so. (whenever needed) When I do that I never have a problem. The one my kids just got me last month but my 2 yr. old goes in the boat with us, she loves to ride in cars etc. werever we go she goes. and now my new one does too. They even have little life jackets for them we keep in the boat. LOL We got a lot of stares but there safe. Good luck Majorlover
You can trim hair. I'd be more worried about finding one thats healthy and that doesn't have luxating patellas. According to the OFA site I beleive they were first in line for luxating patellas. Be sure you have that checked in any breeding stock you are thinking about getting a puppy from.
i have a pom that just turned 1 year old in december. when we first got him (he was 8 weeks old), the breeder had cut off all the hair around his bum b/c he had had diarrhea and got a lil messy. but we have had him over a year now and we never trim around his bum and he never gets poo stuck there (although i think the trimming would prolly be a good idea). as far as trimming the pee pee hair, we recently took gus to the groomer and she said he does a very good job of keeping his pee pee clean-so that made us proud. haha
i have 2 eskies with really furry hineys. only when they are in tummy distress and have messy poo is it a problem. and even then i usually opt to rinse them off rather then trim their hair. my manle, i did sani-trim him because his hind is 10 times fluffier than the rest of him. but geerally if the poo is soft messy enought to be getting stuck in the fur, thats a diet problem. or, as i said, an upset tummy problem. a hard turd will pop out and hit the ground, not mash into the fur. gross right? ick.
