Hey. Well, right now, I can't be a foster parent, but in a while I hope I can. Can you be a foster parent at any shelter? I live in Texas. Does anyone here foster animals? I think it would be a lot of fun, help animals, and be a great way to learn about different breeds of dogs. I might try with cats too. If you have fostered animals before, would you recomend not having animals of your own, incase some of the foster animals don't get along with other ones? Right now I'm still in school, but once I'm out, and move out, I would REALLY like to be a foster parent, and if that means that I cant have animals of my own, I think I could handle it, as long as I almost always had a foster animal at my house! :) To the people who have fostered.... how do you give the animal back after you have fostered it? If you ended up wanting it, can you adopt it once it's ready? That would be my problem, I'd want them all! Well, thanks for any info. Little Lady :)
I'm not sure about Texas but in SC most no-kill shelters are in need of foster parents for pooches. Call one near you locally and they will direct you in the right direction. Or live down a dirt road in the country like I do and people think I'm the local charity drop off point.
Here is one based in Houston. I believe it is Houston, may be Austin? But I have talked with the director there. I almost adopted a lovely girl named Jewels from her. Unfortunately, my dog Missy took a huge turn for the worse at about the time that I was going to get Jewels, and I decided that it would not be in Missy's best interest, or mine or the new girl's. Anyway she is a very nice lady, and I am sure she would appreciate any help.
I'm pretty sure there's a shih tzu rescue group in Texas. I know with some rescue groups that rescue certain breeds they need foster homes nation wide. So maybe looking into that when you're ready. I've been contemplating fostering Bichons myself and just not sure the time is right for our family so I haven't filled out the papers.
