My 4 month Shepherd pup is paper trained. Toooo good actually.Since he was 7 weeks he went right to the paper, the problem is, he will go out with everyone else, stay out as long and longer than most, than runs in to the paper. it's like he holds it till he gets that paper. I can't take the paper away because of Peanut and I have 5 1/2 week old shepherd pups who moved themselves out of the bedroom and hang out with the rest of us now.(my feet are always warm). I put him out as soon as he wakes up and as soon as he eats. He is the hardest pup I ever tried to housebreak. He has gotten real good about sitting and waiting for his food. I put the Shepherd pups and Peanuts food down first and he will sit and stay until I get back to him. He is very intelligent and loving, He just LOVES THAT PAPER. Any ideas?
If you want to wean him off the paper in the house then what you need to do is take the paper outside with you everytime and put it on the ground. Not sure what sort of paper you use but the idea is this; You do this for a few days and then gradually start using smaller peices of paper until you are bringing out a square. At the same time you start taking the paper away from inside the house and before you know it he will be going outside all the time!
They are pretty smart dogs and will get the hang of it very quickly. There are always some mistakes but thats okay part of training and part of life lol.
