Can anyone tell me approximately when a Yorkie's coat will change color from black to blue. My little girl is almost 2 years old. Also, is there a way I can help keep her coat silky. Hers seems to mat very easy even though a brush her a lot. Maybe there is a better shampoo I should be using for her. Any suggestions? BTW she is one of the sweetest little babies you ever want to meet. Such a little cuddle bug. She would be happy if I just held her and carried her around all day. She so much my little baby.
Some yorkies don't change as they grow up, and it sounds like your dog is going to.
All yorkie puppies are black.tan and as they grow they normally change to any degree of blue and tan. Some don't change at all, or much, and others might turn a "rare" color. There's no such thing but some people try and sell off-standard colors as rare.
The best way to brush a yorkie is to do it daily. You might need to get a mat breaker tool. I use 6 different brushes on both my short and longhaired dogs. I love the mat breaker tool I have! I also have a tangle removing rake with rotating teeth. It's been a lifesaver with my longhaired dachshunds!
