I have never noticed our Petco being dirty before, but we went there last Saturday and the smell was enough to gag a maget. My husband said he had noticed it before and mentioned it to one of the cashiers and she said she didn't smell anything. Good grief, what would it take? We thought it might be the cages where the white mice are kept. We have never had that happen at Petsmart.
I don't know about Petco anymore. The last time I was there it was on a rainy day and I needed to buy dog food and some other items. Well, I needed a cart to carry it because it is a large bag that I buy. I looked around and didn't see any carts in the store or close by the entrance outside of the building where they keep them. So, I approached a lady employee and she then related it to the cashier. The cashier then told me "I'll just have someone bring the bag of dog food to the register" I thought that I wanted to buy some other things too, not just the food. It made me upset that EVERY SINGLE time I go to Petco I always have the same problem. No carts available, I have to be looking for one in the parking lot or I have to ask someone to bring one in. I told them to never mind, that I would come back another time. The cashier's response was "ok".
So, I don't know if I'll go again but if do go back it wont be any time soon.
sometimes the employees wont notice the smell because they are used to it. my friend has her litterbox, in the laundry room by the side door, the door everyone goes in and out of. i always smell it when i first go into her house. after i am there awhile i dont notice it. she never smells it, but she is home 24-7. if the small rodent cages are not cleaned on a regular basis, they will REEK !
we dotn have a petco nearby, only a petsmart adn local supply store. we spend most of our money at the local supply store; rarely do i patronize petsmart. too expensive and they dont sell our dog's food anyway.
but the few petco's i have been in have seemed like dingy truckstops to me. ewwww. not stinky, but just dirty-dingy.
Our Petsmart is the one that's nasty! It's always dirty and stinks. Every employee I have ever run across there is rude. I was in line once and my cashier got caught up in a personal conversation with another employee while he was getting my change. I stood there forever and then he forgot to hand me my receipt so I had to keep waiting.......The guy behind me in line kept clearing his throat and rolling his eyes, I guess he wasn't impressed either.
Our petco is dirty, it's not unusual to see dried urine on the floor or, poop nuggets under the shelving. GROSS! I don't let my guys walk in there EVER. (They've only been in there a couple times) There is one area of the store, weird place and I can't figure out why it smells but it's the front of the store between the offices and the fish area there's a clearance table and that rea is just SO gross smelling. They're building a petsmart up the street from Petco so that'll be interesting to see if Petco cleans up their act!
Our Petco USED to be what you all are describing. Then they switched buildings and it is so much better. It's super clean, almost too clean lol. Everything looks really nice and decorated. The fish are awesome, the tanks are kept so nice and spotless, and they actually LIVE. The fish from Petsmart die within 24hrs lol.
We went into petsmart a wee or so ago and it stunk. I think it was the ferrits because thats were the smell was the worst. I had been in there a bunch of times and it has never stunk like that befor. Maby it was cage cleaning day and they had not done it yeat.
Our Petco is clean because it is a new place, but the people who work there are not friendly like at Petsmart. At Petsmart even the employees seem to love the animals walking in the door. At Petco, they could care less if you even bring your dog in. I have gone to both several times and it's always the same. You would think this Petco would hire animal friendly employees considering what kind of business they have. I must not be the only one who has noticed because Petsmart is hopping with people and pets and Petco is almost empty!
