We took Minnie ( mini schnauzer) to the vet as she didnt feel well yesterday when we got home ( in the evening)..she is a food hound..and she was lathargic and didnt want any treats. I gave it till the morning and called at 8am and got her in..so..the vet gave her 2 shots one to make her more comfortable and a antibiotic..I dont not much about this..but it showed up in xrays as gas I guess...She will be fine..and already is almost her old self...poor lil snot..she wasnt yapping and being a pain in my side...but deep down I knew she needed to go..so...almost 300 bucks lighter but she feels better..next is a nice hair do..Im done doing schnauzer do's..So...Shamus goes tomorrow and she will go too if she acts like she feels right..if not..in a few days..Has any one else experened this..
Hey Huronbreeze, I don't come on here much anymore but I saw your post and had to respond. Lacey, our 6-yr-old mini schnauzer has gastroenteritis. She had a couple scary episodes and a stay in the hospital before they figured out what it was. She was very lethargic and going bloody diarrhea and had to go to the ER twice. Even after the diagnosis, she still had one more stay in the hospital for another episode. They told us not to feed her ANYTHING other than dog food because her stomach can't handle it. She has been fine since then, her last episode was probably about 8-10 months ago I'm guessing. They also gave us meds so that if she starts acting sick again (because we all know that no matter how hard you try, they sometimes eat things they aren't supposed to), we have to give her the meds right away. We've done that a couple times to be on the safe side, and she has been fine. It took over $1000 in vet bills but it was well worth it.

thanks Schnauzerlover...i am thankful for the post..and that my ordeal was no way near yours,,i new this dog was in bad shape when she didnt bounce off the walls and eat everything in sight..she feels much better today..mooching treats every moment she can..Shamus barfed once..and i called the vet and she said no way to tell if it was a catching thing..but to watch..he has since done ok..so..im thankful..
her blood work turned out well...i had them even run heartworm at the same time since they were getting blood.,..might as well..i was worried about prymetra...or some thing close...whew...it wasnt...She is in great health out side of this bug..and she was in the vet less then 24 hours since we saw how she acted..had we not acted i bet it would have been worse..I really like this vet..she spent about and hour and a half with her and us..explaining and doing xrays..and such.. asked to take a differnt view and asked for permission and it did help with the diagnosis..all in all it was like 280..but i had a few stool samples i brought in since we were going..so..i feel good with this office..my other vet would really have cost im sure..It is about an hour drive..but we like them better so far..i cant complain at the service..i feel well taken care of..
She did ask if i wanted minnie to stay..i said no..she will be fine..and if she seemed worse i would go to the affiliated emergency vet...but as it turned out..she recooped fast..and almost 100%...yes..i am ginving her 2 meds..and they seem to be handling her issues..But she didnt have bloodly stool..Thank God..that would scre the bageez ahhs out ofme..thanks for the imput..it sounded like a flu type thing that dogs get..some worse then others..so..ill be on the look out from now on..but if one of my guys acts strange..im prtyy much on it pretty quick...take care..cya..and yes..you need to hang around more often
