I do not like pure breds at all,to me they are just a waste of money. At a humane society you could get a dog for $50.00 and you could save its life.Pure breds don't get put to sleep. In my eyes when you buy a pure bred your taking the life of a shelter dog.
I like both purebred dogs, and I like mutts too. In fact I have a rescued humane society dog right now. And you are wrong, many purebred dogs DO get put to sleep. Not as often as mixed breeds, but that's because mixed breed dogs outnumber purebred dogs by 2 to 1 or even more. Purebred dogs do have an advantage, in that if you know what it is, you can be pretty sure on both the temperament and the size/look of the dog when it grows up. Many people prefer knowing that, to rolling the dice and getting a mixed breed dog. You have no idea how manypeople i know adopted that tiny puppy from the humane society expecting it to remain small and it grew up to be a 75 lb dog. Not nly that, with some purebred dogs, you can get them with a purpose in mind. For example, serious hunters go with sporting dogs or hounds because they know already that these dogs have been bred for that job. I personaly am on a waiting list for a Newfoundland. I chose that breed because I wanted a dog that historically was bred to do draft work and a dog with a strong instinct for water rescue, which we will train our dog to do. I can't do that with just anydog I get from the humane society. As I've stated before, if all breeders were more responsible, there wouldn't be nearly as many mixed breed dogs or purebred dogs dying in humane societies. Instead, people let their dogs run loose to get hit by cars, get diseases and parasites from wild animals, and breed at will, which adds to the numbers of dogs and cats that don't have homes.
Minnyar, you are a very stupid human you can train almost any to do anything if you really put your mind to it i just wanted to let you know that i am never wrong, only piles of sh** like you can be wrong!
i have both a purebred and a mixed breed and i think i answered this question in your other post but i will again. after i got married my husband and i together have had 4 mixed breeds and 2 purebreds. they were all great dogs, 1 of them was an excellent family dog , good with kids. 1 was a fear biter and was good if strangers left him alone, i trusted him w/our son but no other children. 1 we didn't have long enough to find out if he would have been a good family dog, my husband found him on the streets and brought him home. he died 3 months later of a bleeding disorder. the 1 we have now took 5 years to get him to be a good pet for our family but not 100 percent trustworthy with strange adults or kids the 1 purebred we just lost was a adoption/special needs from a breeder. she had the temperament of her breed and was a wonderful dog with family and children. the current purebred we have i got because since my son is older and has friends running in and out of the house i wanted a dog whose temperament i could rely on. i did not want to deal with the problems we had and now have with our current mixed dog. i do not prefer one over the other. if i didn't have a young child and his friends to worry about i would have probably gotten another mixed breed. it wouldn't have mattered much on the temperament then because i could work thru it. i just couldn't possibly endanger my son or his friends as i was working out any issues. not saying that if you adopt a dog you are guaranteed issues but i didn't want to find out the hard way as a few adoption places i have dealt with are more interested in getting dogs out and alot of the volunteers really have no dog sense at all.
Um. Yeah. No one is right all the time, and you are wrong on this one. Not only that, you say that you hate purebred dogs, but you claim to have owned and shown a Greater swiss mountain dog, currently own a chihuahua, and bred some mixed breed dogs?
Well AnimalLover, that's your opinion that you don't like purebreds but you shouldn't put people down who own them. Maybe you should ask some people their reasonings why they own them. I own 2 purebred dogs, a rottweiler and a boxer. I want to know the background of my dogs (their parents, grandparents, pedigree, etc). I also want to know that the dog has an excellent temperment, and their health is great. Just because I didn't go to the pound to save a dogs life doesn't mean that I have no heart. I understand the shelters do temperment testing on dogs before they put them up for adoption but that doesn't mean you know what you will be bringing home or what can happen down the road. Nothing is 100%. So before you start bad mouthing people, you should first ask why. Don't judge people you don't know.
You're the "stupid human". No person can ALWAYS be right. Go back and read your first post. Purebreds don't get put to sleep. The shelter I was visiting put to sleep 2 purebred American Cockers that day and their were several other dogs waiting on death row to die the next day. A few mixes and some purebreds. So they get put to sleep. When you go to shelters they have purebred dogs if some one doesn't take them or a mix either way they get put to sleep. Dogs only have a certain amount of time and they don't make special for purebred dogs. If people would quit breeding mixes then they wouldn't be ending up in shelters. If many people stopped breeding period there wouldn't be purebreds there either. Maybe you should focus your anger on the people making designer mutts that end up in the shelter or those who don't spay their pets so they get pg and have mixed pups. No you can't train any dog to do anything. Not ever ALL dogs of one breed is a good representation of the breed and capable of living up to the breed. I don't think for one minute you can train or should even be using a corgi X Chi mix for a sled race or a purebred of either breed. I doubt you can use a chow/beagle cross as a catch dog and probably not a purebred version of either. The whole points of breeds is a certain focues. Physical traits are bred into the dogs that make them excell and perform to the best ability possible, then their is the natural inlcination and want in that breed which means you would have to TRAIN another breed of dog to do a job that it may not even enjoy or ever be capable of doing, another thing that is bred into them is temperament, drive and mindset after the development and use of the breed. You can't even go to a byb breeder of a purebred and expect to get the same quality as a dog from a reputable breeder for conformation or working, they would lack a drive, could have a poor temperament, bad health. Dogs that show a natural inclination to the job are chosen and the others culled out, those who don't have what the breed should are not bred, with a mix that doesn't happen obviously because their was no breeding with a purpose in mind the dogs just happened and then ended up in a shelter. If you want a pet and don't care about any of that or risk, then go to a shelter or rescue and get a mix or purebred. If you want a pet go there, if you want a dog that can be an actor go to the shelter and save a dog or even cats life. People are allowed to have a difference of opinion you asked the question and got straight honest answers. You asked which do people like better, not everyone is going to like the same as you otherwise there would be no point to a question. I could care less about either. I like them all about the same. Dogs are dogs to me, I'm a dog lover who loves dogs.
Well, I'm confused, AnimalLover. You start this thread by saying that you hate purebred dogs and they're a waste of money. However, on the Favorite Dog thread you tell us that your Swissy has gone BIS four times and you love her to bits. ?????
To all members that visit this board..... if you have been around the internet for any period of time you will come across certain idividuals that have come to be labeled "TROLLS". AOL has this excellent description on its site. What is a Troll? An Internet "troll" is a person who delights in sowing discord on the Internet. He (and it is usually he) tries to start arguments and upset people. Trolls see Internet communications services as convenient venues for their bizarre game. For some reason, they don't "get" that they are hurting real people. To them, other Internet users are not quite human but are a kind of digital abstraction. As a result, they feel no sorrow whatsoever for the pain they inflict. Indeed, the greater the suffering they cause, the greater their 'achievement' (as they see it). At the moment, the relative anonymity of the net allows trolls to flourish. Trolls are utterly impervious to criticism (constructive or otherwise). You cannot negotiate with them; you cannot cause them to feel shame or compassion; you cannot reason with them. They cannot be made to feel remorse. For some reason, trolls do not feel they are bound by the rules of courtesy or social responsibility. Perhaps this sounds inconceivable. You may think, "Surely there is something I can write that will change them." But a true troll can not be changed by mere words. Animal Lover is a classic Troll. The good thing about trolls is that if you ignore them they usually fade away. Now Animal Lover, I like to beleive there is some good in everyone..... I'm not seeing your good side yet, good luck getting your life back in order, looks like you're going to need it.
B***** H*** you so called 'AnimalLover'. I love both Pure Breeds and mixes and mutts. So don't go around saying 'I hate Pure Breeds' and saying ur so called 'reasons' to hating them. what u just said will never change my mind about liking any dog , pure breed or not. So u better shut up about it and stop starting arguments like this. U so called 'AnimalLover'. WelshPuppy who thinks u r and IDIOT. f**** u 'AnimalLover'!!!!!!!!!!!
hey people, we seem to have another hot topic! LOL! animallover, i have had a pruebred huskie once....and guess what! I GOT HIM AT THE SHELTER!!!! so PLZ shut up, get off your high horse and smell the doggie doo. No one is always right.... If i could i would rescue every single dog from all the shelters in the world...........but that would be a WHOLE lot of dogs. And so i wouldn't have the room...i would HAVE to put some down... did you know that humane shelters try not to put dogs, cat, ect. down unless they have to? also, when they do they try and put the ones who are the most aggressive and the oldest ones down first. I know this because i was recently at a shelter and had asked about it. I personally will not get a pure bred dog, unless it is from the shelters. I love all dogs......my dog is a mix and i wouldn't trade him for the world. the same is for many people who own a pure bred and a mix.... you aren't a true animal lover if you hate a certain type of animal. have a nice day!
lol here's a thought for ya minnyar...go to the shelter and adopt a chi. acording to animallover you could train it to do water rescue instead of the NewFoundland, and,oh my goodness, you'd be saving money! LOL!! but then that would only work if you are rescuing paper bags and such. :P LOL
Notice how Animal Lover starts the topics but never responds to what everyone is putting? Definately a troll! The best thing that all of us can do is dont even respond to Animal Lover or others that start these ridiculous topics. We are just feeding the fire here. No-one says you have to respond to ignorant people like this one. This person will eventually get off the board hopefully after we ignore him/her enough. Shame we can't ban certain people on here. A heated argument is good sometimes, it shows someones passion. But this person resorts to plain old ignorance by using foul language (even though its not spelled out) and likes putting people down. Its fine to disagree with what someone has to say but sometimes it's getting a little out of control. And if this person is an adult, I feel very sorry for anyone who encounters him/her. To behave in such a way as you Animal Lover, its just a shame.
ok, i am very sorry, i was just in a bad mood that day because i was very sad that the vet had to put my dog down for being to old, i am very sorry if i offended any of you and i love all dogs whether they are pure breds or mutts, i was way out of line in saying what i did and i know that i am not always right, i hope that you will forgive me and i am very truley sorry. p.s i owe a very big apology to Minyar. u r not the stupid one, i am. yours truly, Cristina
''In my eyes when you buy a pure bred your taking the life of a shelter dog" Oh and where did you find that pile of sh**? What is so bad about buying a purebred? Really, people buy purebreds so that they know what they are getting so that they can show it, have it as a companion, etc... Excuse me *cough*, mutts can do only about half the things that purebreds can do, because certain qualities are bred in them.
There can be a lot of good things about buying a pure bred dog. With a mutt you can't show them or breed them and have registered papers on them. To some people this is very important. If all we had were mutts in this world, God only knows what kind of health problems we would be dealing with! For responsible breeders, the whole point in breeding is to promote a healthier and better temperamental breed with every breeding that takes place. With a mutt, you are never sure of where that dog came from or what bad genes were passed along into it. I have owned some very special "mutts", but I would never breed them and thus pass along some unexpected health problem or bad chemical makeup. If we had some type of system setup in this world where there were breeding farms where temperaments and good health were key, and every home the animals were placed into had to sign a contract that was binding so the animal could not be sent to a kill shelter or be neglected or passed around, our shelters would not be so overcrowded and we would not have so many people that keep animals just to abuse them. I doubt anything will ever come into effect like that but it's just a thought. This world will just get worse before it gets better.
