I was thinking about gettinga pair of finches, but I want a love bird or parakeet, or some other small parrot. this would be my first bird, and I also have a 10 month old son. but I am home all day. I have a cage that is 18 inchesx 18 inchesx 18 inches. can some one help? please, thanks
Wow animallover, I totally disagree with you. Most birds are fairly low maintenance. They don't require nearly the amount of care and training as dogs, or even cats. Why advise against getting one, pets of any sort, bird, snake, hamster, dog, cat, or otherwise, are good for any family that can care for them properly. Melissajean, I suggest you head to your local library or a bookstore and look at some of the books. The book "Birds for Dummies" would probably be a great place to start on getting more information.
Animal Lover is a Troll, they are best ignored. Check out this great link at AOL on this fact of internet life. http://members.aol.com/intwg/trolls.htm#WIAT Not sure if there is a bird forum here at terrificpets My primary experience is with dogs and reptiles but have many years of experience with birds of many types and my personal favorite and one which I recommend highly to busy familys that would enjoy the companionship that a bird can give is a .... parakeet!! They are great little birds, can entertain themselves temporarily with toys, not too noisy... you may not like a love bird once you have to listen to them regularly.
would they need alot of attencion?(parakeets) I had a pair once but they were breeding and since they were my first birds ever and I had heard alot of horor stories about hand feeding, I gave them to a excperianced bird family. but I loved how they would scream and sing in the mornings. also would they need alot of out of cage time? how much? thanks
i think you should talk to those people who are experienced with birds...also the pet store you are looking at getting the birds from. good luck! oh, and isn't it true that if a child is exposed to feathers, pet dander, ect. at a young age the less likely they will be allergic later in life?
