That is pretty sad. If rabbits are anything like a guine pig, no thanks!! Messy, stinky cages, and some can be very unfriendly. Well I guess any animal can be that way. And be careful of those nails,.....YIKES!
The nails??? Watch out for those teeth. Rabbits and Cavys (Guinea Pigs) are both members of the rodent family and their teeth continue to grow, just like their nails, and may need to be trimmed. This is best done by a professional or someone with lots of experience.
My mother lives in CA and local nature park has had to round up all the bunnies dumped there after Easter. They have had them all spayed and neutered to prevent any more overpopulation. They now keep the gates locked and have signs posted telling people not to dump bunnies. People are either misguided or really stupid. They buy a bunny for the kids for Easter. Then the bunny grows up and isn't so cute anymore. Or not as cuddly as they expected. Or the kids get tired of taking care of it and the poor thing gets dumped somewhere. Our local shelter (WA) actually has one for adoption.
I have a holland lop bunny and i didnt get it for easter. I have had her for almost a year now. And they dont have really big teeth! You give them toys and these wood toys and salt blocks and things and this keeps their teeth small well normal not big teeth. I guess its how you care for them, mine isnt stinky and lives in the house with us and is liter trained. (it was easier to liter train my rabbit then my 4 month old puppy that still hasnt got it yet LOL) Yes im sure if they are not cared for correctly they can stink but ive never had a problem with smelling at all from her. The cats liter box is worse. But yesterday i started a topic on this also about this lady at the petstore yesterday telling me she raises and sells rabbits and sells tons for easter, which i thnk is wrong because they do grow up and the kids dont want them and its sad. My kids grew tired of bella ( the bunny) Shortly after i got her, but thanks goodness she is mine and not theirs.. hehe Bella plays and wants attention just like my cat does and she is very nice and cuddly ( when she isnt in heat- no i dont have any other rabbits so there is no baby making going on here) But yes it is sad that ppl are trying to sell to make a buck and really dont care where they go and if its a good home. I bought bella at the county fair last summer, for 45.00 she was well worth it . My cat and bella get along great and play alot together,. I find them both sitting on the couch and it looks ike they are watching tv..LOL now Bentley my 4.5 month old pup plays rough with her so she stays away from him. But i just wanted to let you know that they dont have ungodly long teeth or long sratchy nails and they dont stink i guess i just care for mine and she goes in a liter box and we dont have a mess and she will find her liter box . They truly are good pets. Now i dont know if a holland lop is a better kind to have. she is med size she is full grown. so maybe the big ones are differnt?
