well as you know we got dollar and he is half akita and when anybody asks what kind of dog he is they say how aggressive he is going to be because he is akita, german shepherd, and pit bull but we are raising him right he is going to puppy class when he is ten weeks my grandmother had a akita for 18yrs that had to be put to sleep she was the sweetest dog in the world one of our neibhors was like your going have trouble with that dog he is going to be so mean he is not mean like today i took him to potty out front on a leash and our neighbor went and got her husband because the dog out was for one thing he is 8wks and another is he LOVES people and people love him until they know what kind of dog he is he should be punished for his breed how do i convince them he is just a puppy not a vicious killin machine oh and the neighbor that done that is the one with the dogs that killed the old owners dog
i have an akita..she is the sweetest things in the world her name is nikita..ppl thought she was goin to be aggressive too..but she is not at all..she is soo sweet and loves people too ..its nice to find another person on ths website with an akita..they are my favorite breed..but the only problem is she is not to fond of our othe dog beuford hoo is a bloodhound but they still get along..this is what nikita looks like... http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j251/kelsiekelly/mihousehehe024.jpg
What a cute picture. She looks like a big cuddly bear. I don't understand why people would think this dog would harm anyone. I have not heard in the news (like pitbull or rottweiler) about Akita's harming humans. On the AKC website the temperment only states that it will be agressive towards other dogs. But is alert and responsibe and dignified and couregeous. People always assume the worst.
i dont think you should worry bout it tho..cause it seemes like your doing all the right things..its usually at owners fault (i find tht) if the dog is aggressive..nd the way your handling things everything should work out great...good luck he is adorable <3333
He is super friendly too, but it depends on ther person. Some people he is just not sure of and won't allow them to pet him(dont worry, no biting or nipping, or growling involved, no fear or aggressiveness shown, he just gives them a bark if they try, but I always tell them first to let him go to them). Others he walks right up to them.
I really think it all also depends on your dogs personality. They are a protective breed and that can't be forgotten, but yes raising does play a role in how the dog turns out big time.
When it comes to my Akita, he is incredibly friendly going into someone elses house and meeting people he has never met, but if they come into our house he is more on gaurd about it. Once he meets people about 3 times he becomes all warmed up to them. I usually just make him sit by me and he becomes more comfortable with the fact that they are in the house.
your babies are all so cute ! dogsareme, do you have any pics of your baby? i was watching the eukanuba dog show. the akita in the show was a beauty. he was white with black markings. first time i had seen one with that coloring. he really stood out in the ring.
