My cat recently had a litter of 6 kittens, and they all have 6 toes on their front paws. Is this a mutation? A handicap? Will this stop people from buying them? Any health problems? This is really strange!

Lots of cats are 6 toed cats. It may in fact increase the likelihood of people wanting one. In fact, Earnest Hemingway had a 6 toed cat, and to this day there are dozens of 6 toed cats living on his property. Since your cat doesn't have 6 toes, do you know if the litter's sire had 6 toes?

There's an actual name for 6 toes cats - slipped my mind at the moment!

I had one, Josephine. Lost her 2 years ago this August - she was 15 years old.

If you were close to me (NJ), I'd love to have one!

Wow! Now that you say that, I had a look at the sire's paws..Honestly, I have never noticed that one one of his front paws he has 6 toes! I haven't had him for that long...but its weird, I never noticed. I've never heard of such a thing before, but thankyou!

6 toed cats are the same as any other cat

but if you put 6 toed cats for sale then more poeple will buy them

Which is NOT the best thing. espcially for sickos who torture animals

When you sell them just put blah blah blah
Dont put anything special cause this ensures more responsible people will buy them, right?

They are called polydactyl and I have a black cat that has 6 toes! It is a mutation normally because one of the parents were inbred. People always want them. It is nothing that will harm the cat. My cat is going to be 13 and he is fine. He was also declawed and was fine. Good luck on finding homes they are adorable! I am sure you will have no problem at all!

6 toes is nothing. The feed store where I get my dog food from is crawling with cats. Most of the cats there have more then 6 toes, the most I contend on one paw was 9. That is very freakish looking. What is interesting is that it seems that all of their toes are fully functional, and they all have working retractable claws, the ones I saw anyway. Probably come in useful for catching pray, protection and climbing. No idea what causes it, but I am pretty sure they are all severely inbred.

We had a cat when I was a kid that had too many toes( I can't remember how many because I was around 4 or 5 at the time). His name was Foot-Foot.

It's nothing to worry about. six toes is called polydactyl or however you spell it.

Those kittens are ADORABLE!!!!!! I always loved tabby and white cats!!! But that little orange one looks all by himself being the only one that's not a black tabby :(

Adorable cats. Again, six toes are nothing to worry about.

one of the cool things about 6 toed cats is that they are commonly called "Hemingway polydactyls" or just "Hemingway cats" because the great author Ernest Hemingway had a colony of thes cats at his house in key west, in fact, they are still there! heres a link to the hemingway house site section about thier cats

P.S the second site i posted has some potential health promblems listed, but it dosnt seem like you have anything to worry about :D they are adorable by the way!!
