I just got this 2 year old husky from a lady. She said she had great manners, etc. But so far, in the 3 weeks we have had her have not seen any of these "great manners". She is coming along though. This dog loves to please and learn new things.
The only thing we have noticed is that when we go to pet her head, she flinches and ducks and closes her eyes as if we are going to hit her for something.
How long should she do this before she is used to the way we discipline our dogs? (we do not hit at all - our dogs know what the word no means *most times* without the abuse.)
It is rather sad that when you go to pet someones dog, or a dog you just bought, you can tell if they were abused the first time you try to put hands on them.
:-( Same thing happened to the dog I had when I was growing up. She was abused. Your new dog was probably abused too. Too bad you can't talk to the lady and get the whole story or at least the truth. So did you adopt her then? Do you have pictures? I am glad that you are giving her a good home!
No I didn't adopt her as I breed huskies and would like to breed her eventually, when I get to know her temperment, potential, etc.
If she turns out to be not of quality breeding stock I am going to get her spayed, and keep her as a companion dog/mushing dog. She has show me she definitly would make a good lead dog for mushing though! LOL, almost rips my arm off when I take her for walks, she hates the choke collar!
ya we had a dog that was abused that we got from the spca with her it all depended on how she felt some days she had good days where we could pet her other days we couldn't go near her. but she was always ok with my mom. i hope that your girl comes along well.
