I just got my 8 week old mini dachshund puppy today, she got car sick a few times on the way home.. other than that she seems fine, just a little tired. My question is.. the breeder gave me no food to casually mix into the food I bought, and my puppy doesn't want to touch what I have. I got Natural Balance Lamb and Rice puppy formula. I asked her what kind of food she's been feeding her and she responded.. "It's a commercial food." and that doesn't help me at all. My question is, will my puppy eventually eat this food, and get used to it.. i'm worried. She didn't want to eat or drink when we got home, she went right to sleep. I'm hoping it's just the stress of the whole ordeal. Any quick responses would be appreciated. Also, she's still.. nameless. haha. She's just so cute, and I want it to be original.. and I can't think of any. My brain is... blank. lol.
Odd that the breeder wouldnt tell you the food she feeds....and not give you some to take with you. It may be very well, that the trip, the vomiting, etc. Has her nauseated, stressed and tired. Let he sleep away....tomorrow try offering it again...she will eat if hungry. Do you know if the breeder was feeding it to her dry, or was still giving it wet? This may be an issue as well. If she doesnt eat or drink tomorrow, take her to the vet to be checked, as these little ones will dehydrate quickly. I always get a check up as soon as any new animals comes to me....you may already have an appt scheduled...but if it not for a few days and she continues this way, I would call and try to get them to take her right away to be safe.
That is so strange she said what she did about the food. Most breeders give you some to start you off on and what the baby is use too. Any of the good top brand puppy food would probably be okay since you don't know what she was on. Maybe even trying some Gerber Rice cereal mixed with alittle deluted can milk. Good luck and congradulations on your new baby.
I also just got a new puppy, the first day he was home he didn't eat at all but the next morning he chowed down. maybe try mixing some wet food with the dry. Or she will definatly start eating when she is hungry. i just leave the food out b/c Kota doesn't eat the recommended amount just yet. However he drinks like 4 full large bowls of water a day! Good luck! Oh how about Daphnie for a name?
