I was woundering if anyone knows the differance between advantix. frontline , & hartz the inexpence flea & tic control med ? and what do they put in advantix. frontline to make it more $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ more chemicals? Lighthouse
i have used all of them and i know with the frontline if you miss a month or two its still effective but the Hartz definitely has to be applied every month. But I use the hartz product and knock on wood ,no fleas or ticks.
Your best choice is going to be K9 Advantix. Each package of K9 Advantix for Dogs lasts 4 to 6 months (One vial per month). Kills 98%-100% of fleas within 12 HOURS - which may be helpful in dogs with Flea Allergy Dermatitis. Flea preventive also protects against deadly Lyme Disease, spread by ticks. Repels and kills mosquitos, carriers of dangerous West Nile Virus. Water-resistant, easy to apply formula stays on in baths or in the rain. Drs. Foster & Smith are guaranteed USA Advantix Suppliers.
The same thing happened to me I used Advantix 48 hrs after giving them a flea bath and what do you know 4days later took off a few of those pesky creatures ( fleas) from my pooch and I'm sure the other one has them too . Don't know what to do Lighthouse
We use Hartz,Sargents or Zodiac on the outside dogs and it works great for them. What ever husband picks up from the store.I dont care if its cheap or poor quality, if its working and the dogs arent adversely affected by chemicals I'll keep using it. Not broke =dont fix mentality,LOL! I havent used anything on my toy poodle, I was thinking a flea collar.
Well, I use Biospot on the dogs and Zodiac on the cats...never had a problem with either brand and everyone is in and out of the house all the time. I know that some don't agree with my choice in brands, but I also use the "if it's not broke..." mentality. I also have used Frontline Plus and K9 Advantix with less than stellar results, which is why I returned to Biospot.

I've never found a flea or tick on my dogs, and I've used Frontline, am now using the K9 Advantix.
I was at a friends house the other day (the one with schnauzers related to mine - "the cousins"). She uses Frontline on her dogs, and one of them has gotten lyme disease. While I was there there was a tick crawling on Ernie's eyebrow fur.
With any of those medications - you are not preventing tics/fleas/etc from getting on your dog. You are, however, making your dog unappealing to them once they're on. You should either find dead fleas/tics which can be brushed off, or none.
I've used frontline for years and always had great success. I have found a tic or two since using it, but they've always been dead.
i have used both advantage and frontline. they both work great, but my pup had a bad eye problem around the time i applied the frontline. do not know if it was related , but next time around, i will go back to the advantage.
I will get on my soapbox again! Diatomecious earth, the HORTICULTURAL blend NOTT the swimming pool type, will eiminate fleas and all inscets if you will dust it around your yard. Actually it is toxic to all inscets, and it is safe to dust your pets with it and you can also feed it to them for internal parasites.
The vet is using Revolution on Mason. I believe it's for Heartworm/Flea/Tick. We did find a tick on him Sunday morning that DH had to pull off. Anyone else use Revolution? Pros/cons? I noticed a previous poster is using it for the first time this season also.
Advantix should not be used on dogs if there are any cats in the house. It has also been linked to seizures & glaucoma in some dogs.
I wouldn't use any of the "WalMart" brands & especially Hartz if there is any way possible to avoid it.
One thing you can use to repel gnats, fleas & flys - Avon Skin So Soft, Eucalyptus Oil & water in a spray bottle & soak 'em down before going outside. Rough the fur the wrong way while spraying it. Great for your hands too.
My vet swears by Revolution. He is the vet for a hunt club & did his own testing on the hunt pack.
Another thing to consider is that if buying these products online, the mfg's won't honor the guarantee. They only guarantee if purchased from a vet
