Dear Pet Owner, I am looking for people who use Retractable Leash and has the experience of the leash popping off. If you do have a accident like that, will you share your story with me? My husband has a unfortune accident with it, I would really like to know how many people out there have been popped by Retractable Leashes? Thank you!!
I've used retractable leashes (Flexi brand) for a long time and have never had a problem with any of them. I have, however, had problems (twice) with the dog's collar. Both times, the D-rings on the collars have given way at a sudden lunge on the lead. Luckily, I've always used the safety collar/cords that are included with the Flexi retractables in conjunction with my dog's collar, so I haven't gotten "popped", and my dog hasn't gotten away from me. I haven't had the bad experience of anything going bad with the retractable itself.
Hope your husband's doing okay...

unless the dog and you are trained to use it i say do not use one. I used them on small dogs and the dogs always broke off of them snapping the leash part. Not a good. thing. I do best with a 6' leash and a nylon choker. But they always have their regular collars on too.
I use flexi brand retractibles, but both my dogs are smaller. I do prefer to use the type that have tape all through, the the ones with cord. I feel safer expecially with big dogs. They make a model for large breeds it is calledt he all belt 3 and rated for up to 150 pound dog. I know that with my girl she used to reach up and chew on the cord part, so I started useing the tape ones I feel safer.
Actually, I hooked the leash to his dog tag instead of the metal ring you are suppose to ( I didn't know I did this at the time) and when we walked outside he saw some animal and took off, causing his tag to pull off. The leash itself didn't break it was just his collar. Luckily he stopped when I called him
i use the flexi lead one that is a belt instead of a cord. i walk both my dogs attached by a coupler to only one flexi lead. one is 100 pound and the other is 85. i have never had a problem with them coming unattached from the lead. matter of fact one time scout was running and when she got to the end of it it jerked right out of my hand. she took off and was running down a hill. i saw the lead start to wrap itself around a tree so i thought great she will get stopped by it ... nope ...... she hit the end of that lead and the force with which she hit the end of it snapped her collar right in half. the leash remained intact/attached to the collar. she took off running. didn;t slow her down for a second =(
