Hi, my name is Lisa and we just had our first litter of AKC mini schnauzers. Since I am new at this, I am wondering if someone can help me with one question. How can I tell what color my mini schnauzers will be when they get older? I have read tons of books, talked to breeders and no one can give me a definate answer. Please help me with this as I would like to start listing them to get them sold, but want to make sure I tell people the right colors. Mom is White and Dad is S & P. THANKS!
The brown puppies will turn white? I actually had 2 that look black, but are getting brown on their sides, still black on tummy and middle of back. I have one that is white as snow and then I have 3 that are a brown/black mix. I am so confused on color.....lol
Thank you Pope, for your information. I just want to make sure that I tell people the right color. You would think that in all the books I read I would have found this information. We are just starting our breeding and I was not expecting to start until we had everything sorted out. Then I went out of town and my husband let our male out with our female while she was in heat, and here we are, with a litter and I don't know everything to do. They are one week old today and I am trying to find good homes for them, but have no clue how to tell the colors. Do you know when they stop changing colors and will be their true color?
Hi Lisa. I am sorry to say but, I can't help you with the colors. If we were talking about Min Pins I could help more, lol. I just wanted to say that your white puppy is totally adorable. Good luck finding your babies wonderful, loving homes.
Here are the pics that everyone needed to see to help me with the colors. Mom is white and dad is Salt and Pepper. Mom and dad both have black and silver in their background as Mom's sire was black and silver and dads sire was the same. Thanks for helping out!!
I have two white mini males who are littermates. The first time I saw them they were 11 days old. Their parents are both white, and the whole litter came out white with 2 of them having more of a cream or champagne tint. One of mine, Cooper, is the champagne color, but when he is clipped short he looks much whiter and the other one, Tucker, is very white.
The stud for my boys was also bred with a black female and some came out brown but soon turned to black & silver.
Here are some pictures of the litter of white puppies. They came out white and have stayed that way.
Wow, terrierterror, those are some very cute puppies. Well, I guess that means we have one that is white (came out white as snow) and 2 that might possibly be black and silver, then 4 that will be salt & pepper with white markers. I guess we will just wait and see! I love these little ones so much already, it is going to be hard to let them go. Of course, my husband would probably kill me if I kept them all and I don't think my Golden Retriever would like it too much either!
Thanks ptreasures, I think they are pretty cute too. My breeder lives right around the corner from - I think we drove her crazy with visiting them every week or so, but now she's the one asking to see them.
I would say that all of yours pups, besides the white one which is obviously white, are going to be salt & pepper. The Black and silver will be very obvious from day 1...and salt & peppers as babies will have the brownish cast to their coat...they will lighten as they grow up into the typical shades of salt & pepper.
Those are some little cuties you all have. I love the white ones. Some of the schnauzers sure do have dazzling eyes. My MIL needs to still find one. She is trying to go the rescue route, but I think she is having a personality clash with them. Other than that she is the perfect pet owner. She had them for the last 25 years. Her last one lived almost 16 years. What state are you in?
