Today, when I took Sasha and Lilly out to my yard to do their business, Lilly and I were towards the back yard. Sasha sitting by the gate because she was done. This man came by walk two pit mix dogs. Of course Sasha barked, Lilly ran to the front. By the time I got there a few seconds later, this man (possible american Indian) was laying sprawled on our lawn holding the two leash's with all his strength. He could not get up with them pulling. God I was scared. I had picked my two up. But my fence is not a strong one. More of just a area cordoned off for mine to play. They don't try to get out. A big dog could easily. Rufus was indoors, now starting to bark all the while this man is on the ground. I am yelling you got it, you got the leash's.
Rufus pushes out of the screen door, it was unlatched. Now Rufus has never started a fight in his life. But I thought for sure those two would take offence of Rufus coming before them. Both my husband and I yell at him to get in the apartment. He does his I am might walk right before them and I yelled Rufus no and he turned around and went back into the apartment. I was sooo mad at him at first for coming out. BUT in hindsight, if he had not done that, that man would not have had a moment to regain control. In all the craziness Rufus actually saved the day. Whew. I know I should have secured the door, but it makes me wonder too what would have happened if I had. Thank god everyone is safe. That man did not say one word thru the whole thing. Down on the ground till he walked away. Perhaps embarrassed. I would have been yelling at my dogs to stop, then apologize profussely.
oh man...what an ordeal..makes you scared when you reflect...see Rufus saved the day...but you should be proud he listened with all the comotion in the first place...shows what a great job training them you and your family has done..im sorry if the girls got there pom pom in a wad...but...seems like in hind sight...your really more together then you might have previously thought..way to go rufus...saving the girls...and you and your hubby cowardinated it all well..lets you know your strengths and weaknesses...whew...good thing the oodles of poodles are safe...
I agree with Huron... it's great to proof your dogs like that and see how they can mind in heated situations!!!
I feel really sorry for that man. That happened to me once, sortof, and I was so embarrassed! I was sitting on the ground and holding on to the leash of my friend's pit, and the pit (95 lbs) decided to dart away and he pulled me on my belly for a few feet before I stopped. He stopped too, which was nice of him. He was like "what in the crap is this woman doing behind me?" HA HA... I had grass stains on the front of my shirt!!
KDubbs you made me laugh. That was kinda funny. Actually when I was a kid of about 8'ish, That happened to me too. We had a large german shepard and I was going to take him for a walk. Well it turned into a drag on the sidewalk. I did not want to let him go, but did. There was thankfully no dog he was running after. Got skinned knees and hands. I was a tomboy kind of kid. LOL I was amazed that nobody got hurt with my three. Rufus listens very well. Obviuosly. Thank god for that.
Good boy Rufus!! My kids have always been like that, one yell and they would walk away or screech to a halt when I called them.. Made it easy for me, I always knew to grab the other dogs if their was a fight.
the same thing kind of happened to me, i have a front ungaited yard, so any strange dog can enter, anyway, i was walking my two chihuahuas one of which was pregnant at that time, all of a sudden my chihuahuas start smelling their terroitory and i turn around to tell them to knock it off(its 6:30 by the way, morning) and what i see, scares the crap out of me, two big as heck rottweilers just staring at me and the dogs, i didnt know what to do, i quickly pick up my chis by their collars and put them in the bed of my truck, (thank God nothing happened to them nor the puppies, born 2 wks after) and the rotties stayed and stared at me for3 mins and walked away, it was so weird but glad nothing bad happened..
