ok, its that time of the year again. Does anyone know of a (tried & true) lawn treatment to help & keep down fleas, ticks? I use Advantage on the Dogs, but I still like to do all I can to help them. ps. I live in Florida
We use a speader to broadcast insect granulas on our entire lawn. keeps ticks fleas and even those pesky mole crickets at bay. We do that a few x's during the summer, esp. after along rain. We just get the Ortho brand or from lowes in abig red bag. we use it around the kennels too.He tosses it up around the house heavy and we've never had roaches( as SC like to call em Palmetto bugs!LOL) or ants in our home. Hope that helped some.
I use the sevin dust from the garden centers of store.. Not the granules but the powder they say that you can actually put on the animal. Out of the two times in the last 30 years that we had fleas we used sevin dust on the dogs, in the carpets and animal beds and vacuumed like crazy and nipped them in the bud.
We had a thread about sevin a year ago. It's carcinogenic. So carcinogenic it's no longer sold easily in Canada and you really have to want it to find it in a specialized garden store, and the box here certainly doesn't recommend it as a flea powder.
It's toxic to breathe in, can cause nervous system damage, because it is a neurotoxin and it's one of the last products you'd want to come in contact with in your home it's absorbed through the skin as well.
All Sevin is the trademark name for Carbaryl insecticide. Whether it's liquid, dust or any other form, the basic make up stays the same, and it is all a neurotoxin, other things about it change, but not the toxicity, though bayer crop science being the maker will obviously have positive things to say about it's own product.
Since there are so many lurkers, I'd just hope that people don't decide to use it as a cheap flea powder because it was read online.
