Yep-It happens sometimes! I have a Yorkie/Poodle and his legs are very long, just like a Mini Poodle's are. He is so cute, lean body and tall legs. I think it's cute :) Our neighbors have a Chihuahua that is a year old and he has long legs too, and very lean and small. Can we see pics of yoyr babies??? I would love to! :o)
Size, Proportion, Substance Weight - A well balanced little dog not to exceed 6 pounds. Proportion - The body is off-square; hence, slightly longer when measured from point of shoulder to point of buttocks, than height at the withers. Somewhat shorter bodies are preferred in males. Disqualification - Any dog over 6 pounds in weight.
That is the AKC standard for the Chihuahua. Anything other than that is poorly bred - not within the standard. Makes no difference as far as being a pet but certainly not a dog that should be bred.
The fact that you have AKC papers for a dog does not guarantee anything including that it is purebred.

There are pet quality dogs in every litter of every breed, there is no reason for anyone to breed any breed just for pets, that seems to be the standard BYB excuse "I only breed for pets, what mine look like doesn't matter, they are really sweet". or nice, or friendly, ahh you fill in the stupid excuse of your choice. Bottom line they are sacrificing the breed standard and the dogs quality for one thing only, and any "breeder", used loosly, that will breed more if demand is high is breeding for money only nothing else, and you will not get a quality healthy pup from someone like this.
The responsibility to the image of what a purebred dog is is often lacking. People are often swept up and blinded by the love of their own dogs and do not do the BREED as a whole justice.
A breed of dog does not come in long and tall and fat and skinny. A breed of dog has a VERY small range that it comes in completly created by us solidifing a phenotype with selecting breeding that creates a b reed.
A breed is a group of recessives. The moment people start breeding anything that has the breed name on it becuase they love their dogs the breed starts to loose its consistancy and fray at the edges.
A breeders responsibility is to stay clear of mind and intent and focuse on what is right for the breed as well as the dogs and not become blinded by personal tastes that fall outside of their breed standard.
no pyr my left eyeball got trashed on the white schnauzer thread.... so now i am blind ...... which is a good thing because if i have to continue reading these breeding for pets and substandard dogs i would prefer to be blind !!
