i have my two ASD's on the EVO. i love it so far. they have been on it for a few months now. scouts fur is so much fluffier now and incredibly soft. they eat about the same amount on it that they were eating before. but they were only each eating 2 cups a day so that isn't a huge amount to start with for 85 and 95 pound dogs. scout produces much less poop on it .. once a day to once every other day ... seriously. salty goes at least once a day sometimes twice which before she would go at least 3 times daily.
they are not active dogs at all and this food has not made them more active like i was expecting with a higher protein food. also when i switched salty to another brand of food she started having allergie reactions ... so far no problems on this food. they have both lost a little bit of weight eating it which is good because they were both overweight to start.
both dogs and both cats drink from the same water bowl and i have not really had to refill it more then usual. sometimes on hotter days i will but not regularly do i notice an increase in water consumption.
my one cat loves the food also and will eat it if scout passes on one of her meals.
so far i really like it. its expensive as all heck so that is a huge drawback to it -(
The EVO is supposed to be raw diet in kibble form. -suebgone-
This is a marketing thing for Innova. Though I believe EVO is a "good" kibble. Kibble is cooked. The Whole beauty of RAW is it is exactly the opposite. It is not cooked. The Ingredients in EVO is much more approriate than other kibbles. but it no way, shape or form is anyway like RAW
I was using it for awhile, and outside a little bit of gas, it was fine. But a few people had me worried that it was too much protein for my little not so active dog, so I switched to canidae, which is fine, too.
To tell you the truth, I've used several different foods, natural balance, sensible choice, evo and canidae, and I cant tell any difference from one to another. So which is best?
layla switching from one good foof to another you probably wont see a difference or it may be just a slight one.
the high protein scares me also. may just be i need to recondition the way i think about protein or not i dont know. but all i can say is that i have noticed a drastic difference in scout and its all been i the positive direction so far ...... except for the price =(
gunny with the RAW .... do you feed grains ? one of the vets i work with was telling me that dogs shouldnt be fed entirely grain free like the EVO is. that wolves would have had their grain needs met by eating the stomach of the animals they killed. while i am typing this i realize that both scout and salty have become avid grass eaters since the warmer weather. scout has always enjoyed grass eating but she is eating it like it is a meal lately. could that be because she is not getting grain in the food ?
mine have been n regular innova for 2 years i switched to evo for a onth and hte gas was horrendous. i almost had to have my house condemned. and the water intake was overly absurd. so i switched back to regular innova and not a problem since. i have one with a sensitive belly so i wont switch ever again unless someone develops an allergy or something drastic. but htey have great teeth, small, once or twice daily poos and beauiful coats on regular innova. the vet was delighted with how they look.
I had Merphy on it for like a month. He lost interest in it, so I switched to something else (which I should not have done). There is a mill down the street from me that sells "premium" dog food. They gave me a sample of it, he loved it, so I bought the entire bag (they only sell 40 lb bags). Now, he has lost interest in that too, but I'm sticking with it. However, I was upset that after I brought it home and fed it to him for a few days, I read the ingredients and its full of cornmeal and byproducts--thats not premium or human grade to me. I think its adding to his allergies. So, I have found a new food at the Pet Expo that I really like, and I can switch ingredients so he won't get bored with it, and its all human grade. Once my life slows down a bit and I move, I want to switch him to that for good.
I have been very slowly mixing in Innova adult formula with diamond all natural for the past month. Coat is looking great less poop only problem is he seems to be getting sick. He's not throughing up the food just yellow liquid. Has any one else had problems? He doesn't seem to have a sensitive stomach, but i'm wondering if it has too much protein.
