I am concerned about a 6 mo old baby being in a household with a pit bull and doberman. Has been in home for one month as of now with no problems. can we be sure this is safe for the child? appreciate your comments.
It really doesn't matter what breed of dog it is, you have to evaluate the dogs with your child as she/he grows up. Some may have problems other won't. My Shiba-Inu were fine when I had my son, the Chow Chow that was raised with my son, and re homed later. She was rehomed due to dog aggretion, no people aggresion, was jelous of the first baby her new owner brought home, she peed on the carpet by his crib, in protest, 3 times then never again. She is very protective of the second baby that they now have, it just depends.
You shouldn't leave them alone together ever. But be very vigilant when the baby gets older. Do either of the dogs have toy of food guarding issues? Have either dogs ever been around children? Have either dogs ever displayed and behaviour that would make you worry?
why do we always ask is it safe to have dob, pit, or any dog for that matter safe around childrens....why not ask would I BE RESPONSIBLE ENOUGH TO HAVE DOGS OF THAT NATURE AROUND MY CHILD OR CHILDRENS.... once you ask yourself that question you will have your answer. not trying to offend anyone.
Becareful with any dogs and babies. i heard on here one time about a pom killing a unattended baby. I rasied my 3 boys with pits but they were always watched and supervised as i would any breed. Then there will come a time that your child knows how to respect a dog and the dog the child. Its a beautiful thing to see child and dog campimg, wrestling and playing. Good luck and maybe a few dog behavior books /training and sociallizing classes will help you be a more confident educated dog owner.
If your dogs are friendly with people and with children and have no aggression problems with people, you should have no problem. Pit bulls used to be called the Nanny breed because they are so good with children. I have 2 children and a pit bull. I did not have him when they were infants though, just had not gotten him yet.
Your baby will have a couple of hairy 4-legged friends.
I have a video on here right now of my pit bull playing with an adult he had just met and a child (who is practically stepping all over him) who is 5 years old. My best friend (the mother of the child in the video) has FOUR children and has had her pit bull when all of them were babies except the first child. I have seen those kids trip and step on that dogs testicles and he just crawled away from them with a whining noise, no growl, no anything.
I have never owned a Dobie, but there are a few Doberman owners here that can help you.
Welcome to the forum!

I'm a Dobie breeder. Dobies and pits (had them too) are wonderful with children, but please use some common sense and never leave them alone together. I would never leave a child under 8 or 9 alone with ANY dog. As long as your children know to treat any animal with kindness, you should be fine with any breed. Also remember that rough play, other than tug of war with a long rope, can teach a dog aggression. (The rope is a game with no physical contact.)
