hi i have a west highland terrier who is 3 years old. he is a lovely dog and the best friend in the world but wont stop jumping up and barking at the t.v when i am watching it. does any one have any advise?
One of my little female schnauzers barks if she thinks its our doorbell when they advertise pizza. But I have no way of knowing how you could stop the barking. I hold her and talk to her about whats on tv. She loves it. She will watch animal planet for a long time. She will actually move down in front of the tv so she can see better. Is she a puppy or really young dog?
Sorry, just noticed where you said he was 3. After that length of time he may be hard to break. Try holding him and talking to him about what he's barking at. Sounds crazy, but it works with Tina. She loves pictures on the tv and computar both.
My 4 yr. old westie loves the TV. Ive tried everything I can think of to get him to stop going crazy whenever he sees a dog on TV.. childrens voices also get his attention. I've tried turning the TV off or changing the channel- that didn't work.. I talk to him in a soft tone voice saying No bark, but nothing has worked.. So I know how frustrating it can be to watch a program and have the dog go crazy where you can't hear a thing. My younger westie doesn't bark but runs around the house whining.. Westies are notorious for watching TV.. Both of my boys can see a commercial one time that shows a dog and they know it forever.. even if they're in another room.. they come running to the TV. What is with every movie today, they all have at least one dog in them.. People wouldn't notice unless you have a dog that goes nuts.
I think this issue needs the Dog Whisperer's expertise. :)
I have a cavalier bitch that whenever she sees another animal on tv she has to bark at it, glad it's only pertaining to animals though otherwise there would be no end to this, lol. I bet she sees it in colour too.
Cody, 1 1/2 yr. Bichon/Westie mix loves to watch TV also. He used to bark at barking dogs on the tube but I just kept talking to him and telling him they are on TV and eventually he stopped barking at them. He loves to lay at the foot of the bed and watch TV and if something strikes his fancy he will sit up and cock he little head from side to side starring at the TV, it if really gets to him he walks up the bed to nudge me and makes sure I see what he is looking at and to reassure him it is ok. He did give up the barking but I really don't know why, if it was the talking of if he figured it out for himself. have fun and hopefully yours will outgrow the barking too.
