This lady I met as I was walking my dogs said she had a chihuahua that was a mexican chihuahua which means it is really big like 10-12lbs and its ears don't stand up. That it is called a mexican chihuahua. I said I never heard of that sounds to me like a poor bred chihuahua esp if the ears don't stand. Mind you if this was her baby and she was walking it I would not of been so blunt, but she was trying to sell it to me for $100! She did not even have the dog with her. She told me if I wanted to see the chihuahua to give me a call, and gave me her phone number. Why when I walk my dogs I meet the strangest people lol!
Well my question is, is their such a thing as a mexican chihuahua. Like a whole nother breed of chihuahua. I heard of the mexican hairless, but not a mexican chihuahua. I looked into it and some sites say it is not a real dog, but I figured I would throw it out here for all of you to let me know. Is it the full name of a chihuahua mexican chihuahua, just no one has the mexican part anymore and just says chihuahua? I thought if that was the case my books would've explained that.
I am lost! Was she pulling a fast one on me, or not?

wow some people will do anything and say anything to sell a dog I have learned alot.Like there is no teacup chihuahua. In papers where I live they say teacup, tiny, will be small, under 5 lbs just amazes me.
Your right, a chihuahua is a chihuahua. There is no seperate 'mexican chihuahua'. Someone likely pulled a fast one on her as well. Chihuahua's originated from Mexico, so there for, I gues they are all mexican chi's whether they are within standard for AKC or not, lol
Yea that is what I was thinking that is was just made up.
I still sometimes hear that from people that is why I had to ask. I heard that from another lady awhile back when I was first looking for my chi and she told me to check out her website and she said she only had AKC dogs no bigger than 6lbs that she breeds on her website, but when I got their I saw ones that were like 8-10lbs! I asked if those were pets or did she breed them and she said she did ever now and again. Which if she remembered what her website said she was then lying to potential buyers about the weight of the parents. She also only had CKC, but said she had AKC. What a joke!
Koon I can't believe that! 5lbs is standard for a chi! I guess people will try anything. I hope no one falls for it!
the chihuahua back then(1904) used to be called the mexican chihuahua, then dropped, thank GOD you didnt buy it... and the standard the real one(akc) is 6 lbs not 5lbs to the who said it was five i know trust me
The one thing with Chihuahua's is that they do range in size greatly, anywhere from 2 lbs. to 13 lbs.. But that is not standard by all means. It's just because they were so popular back in the 70's and still now that you have so many chi's that are of poor show quality, because alot of breeders just trying to make a quick buck. I have one Chi that is 11 lbs., beautiful but way to big for breed standards and he is purebred, a 8 lb. one, and my little longhaired Chi, who now just hit 2 lbs. She is 6 months old. Big or small I love them all!
yes but what is happening now is that people are selling these larger way off standard dogs as deer head chihuahua and calling them rare. That is realy sad, it is like teacup well anything, toy aussies, royal poodles and any other these "breeders" (note sarcsm) can tag on to the breed name so they can sell it to people who are unwilling toeducate themselves on the animal they are buying.
I agree mine is blue around 3 lbs and is almost 7 months old but she was gave to me.But people here are so uneducated a lady come to my house saying she did not know if a dog could be house trained and she thought my min. pinscher was a chiahuahua. So alot of people are doing just that saying things that make the dog look good (teacup, small, rare, applehead) and peple thank this is good so I agree.A chihuahua is a chihuahua big or small
