I'm a big fan of odorcide, we found it at homedepot recently. I follow the delution instuctions and put it in a spray bottle and spray it on the carpets, furninture, anything you would spray febreeze on. It works a million times better than anything else I've tried, and it smells sortof like cinnamon. It's safe enough to spary on Kaycee's pillows and on the kids beds. I usually have to do that twice a month and in between I give waterless baths (that stuff you get at petstores). That really helps since Kaycee tends to really stink after a day running around in the yard.
I am with Icy on this one. We only have carpet in our bedrooms/study...the rest of the house is hardwood floor or tile. Once a month I usually take our carpet cleaner & clean the furniture and bedding that can't be washed, every 3 months for carpet, and with daily/weekly cleaning routines I through in some Febreeze and baking soda for the carpets. Opening windows definitely helps, and I know when we have pups I get some odor neutralizing candles to burn. Hope this helps...
I live with 3 VERY coated dogs, 2 oily coated dogs, and one greasy little Yorkie, however Everyone gets at least 1 bath a mont, or more frequently if they have a show coming up. More bathing... go to the source of the problem... if the dog soesn't smell the house won't smell...
Mason is a maltese/toy poodle mix. It's that running around in the grass smell. The weather is nice in VA, so we've been keeping the windows open. We've had him for 8 weeks and he's had a bath 3 times. I don't want to bathe him too much because I don't want to overdry his coat. We have carpeting in our family room, which we bought way before we ever thought we would get a puppy. I wash his bedding pretty often. I bought some Arm & Hammer baking soda carpet sprinkle stuff. It should work. Thanks for your ideas!
I really like OdoKill and Odokleen. They are very reasonably priced, dilute 256:1 (which is important to me as I have an epileptic dog that cannot tolerate heavy chemical odors) and can be added to the laundry, steam cleaner, or in a spray bottle for spritzing.
I know many others who really like Odoban, but I've never used it so can't comment on it.
We also only have carpet in the bedrooms. I use Odokill and Odokleen also. I keep our couch covered and always have a spare cover on hand to put on it while I wash the other. We live a mile away from the ocean so on nice breezy days I open the windows and that does wonders! Even in the winter I will open a few windows just for a little bit to air the house.
Icy I bet you can throw a mean 1-2!LOL! Washing all those pooches should give your arms and hands a real work out!LOL!
I wash Nap about every two weeks and I light incence while I meditate so maybe thats why I cant smell dog oder. Or it could be the 3 boys stink the dog out with that sweaty man smell!LOL! My friends wallk in and say they can smell that 3 boys out number me because all they smell is man colonge.
If you get a good shampoo and conditioner, it's ok to bathe the dog more often. I use a brand called Buddy Wash on Jasmine. Its all natural and very gentle, won't dry out the coat. I occasionally use an oatmeal shampoo too.
For the smells, I actually have from Dr Foster & smith an allergen reducer spray. It also gets rid of pet smells. Seems to work great, I spray it once a week all over the house.
We wouldnt dare! think you're dirty people what house dont have a odor? any time you have pets in a home there is going to be some type of odor somewhere and its up to you to find out how to get rid of the smell. isnt this the reason you ask? lmao.. i'm good housekeeper and take very good care of my dog. and i can still smell his little scent the little stinker .after i'm done cleaning i go & get my scented candles ...HELLO!
I give Bentley my bichipoo a bath once a week and he needs it. He doesnt get dried out and he starts smelling funny after 4 days. and his coat is flat and smelly and when hes washed hes fluffy and white and clean and smells like a baby..LOL wow im going to try thta odorcide ive been using natures maricle which i was told was the best to kill pet smells as in pee and poo smells . i have hard wood also threw out my house but my bedrooms have the carpet and my bed room where he sleeps was starting to smell like he had peed a few times on the carpet so i cleaned it with a carpet cleaner and did put some of that natures maricle in it along with other carpet cleaner i didnt think it worked all that well. My husband says im smelling things that arent there. he says he cant smell anything and to me i smell like pee every where! i wash my hard wood floors every day tho and he is blocked out of all bedrooms he sleeps with us at night so he can get down and pee on the floor even tho he has a pee pad down there but i think hes doing much better becuase i havnet smelled the strong smell like i use to. My hubby is going to love hearing me say i need to go to home depot..LOL i hate that store.. i wait in the car while he goes in.. so he will think im joking around i hope i find it,, theresa
