abbylynn, I just wanted to say that I back up your decision to be hands on with your pups is good, and more breeders should be like you. I bet you can really say that you have few unhappy puppy owners because you do know about them so well.
As for anyone who doesn't like it, well go somewhere else for your dogs. We all bash byb and here is someone who truley cares about EVERY pups she brings into this world and your gonna bash her, give your heads a shake.
~~~rednosedred~~~You for one should hope for more breeders like abbylynn, dealing with the attention that pitties get you should hope for pit breeders like her. Sure most pit breeders sites say they don't sell their dogs for illegal practices but do they know for sure? If they were like abby they would.
Like I said before, if I ever meet someone looking for a sheltie, I would steer them towards abbylynne. You really care about your pups...not just for eight weeks, but for life.
It's amazing that anyone would disagree with your practices when some of the same ppl supported someone who discriminated against buyers because of age or race. You just want your pups to be probably taken care of. If they can afford to buy the puppy, they need to be able to afford to take care of it right too. I wouldn't buy the car if I couldn't afford the case the gas and the oil changes.
Soryy if I disagree with you. I don't need a breeder to tell me what food to feed my dog (if it's cheap your not getting the dog),what flea meds to use (if you use Hartz i'm not selling you the dog), how to groom my dog ,check up on my vet(I think not). I paid for the dog ,it ends there unless I need to the breeder for some important info.A couple of times I needed Pipers breeder to answer some questions ,and she happily did.She doesn't interfere with my ownership of Piper.Yes ,she'll email me to ask how she's doing ,I don't mind that,i've sent her pics .That's as far as it goes. I will purchase from her again. I lover her dogs , and I love how she does things.I don't need a dictatorship in my life just for a puppy.If I where looking a that kind of dog,I would not purchase from her. It's way too much interference.
Red, so what is your problem? No one asked you to buy a puppy from her. You don't buy a dog from abby or a breeder like her then. but you certainly don't need to bash her and try to make her feel like she's doing something wrong when we have people on this forum that breed for profit, don't do genetic testing, breed young dogs, etc. Then theres those that breed mutts and god knows what. Why don't you go after them instead of someone that actually loves their dogs and their puppies and wants whats best for them?
I see what abby is trying to do, but I would never want someone so up in my face all the damn time. I think you sound like a breeder that's gone alittle over the top. I can see having strick rules and regs on who can purchase a pup and spay/neuter rules and things like that, but the whole food and calling the vet thing is crazy. It's just to much. I'd feel like a child if I bought a pup from a breeder like that. :(
But if you're having success with it, then more power to you. But I'm sure glad I'm not in the market for a sheltie :)
Also, don't you think that your extreme ways might be why some genuine families end up getting puppies from puppy mills....all people want is a loving and loyal pet....and with breeders so "tight" on potential owners, families/people are being driven to those who are more "acomidating"...and unfortuntely they tend to be puppy mills are BYB. But aleast they don't make the family feel like a criminal.....That's what I get from it...Guilty until proven innocent :(
Like I said before...I feed my dogs what they want...their bodies tell them what they like and that's okay with me. My dog barely even has tarter on his teeth, let alone any health or weight problems. And he's still as active as he was when he was 1yr old and he's 6.
Well lay off abby. I just find it completely ironic this forum is so against puppy mills and byb's, but when a GOOD breeder is doing something she believes is best for her pups people lay into her.
But then when people don't test their dogs, breed them for profit, breed them too young, and whatever else they do, everyone tiptoes around them and doesn't really say what they feel. Unless of course they are a one post wonder.
I'm on both sides of the fence here. I understand what Abby is trying to do, and that is great. But I also think there is more to breeding then sending the puppy off and your done. I do keep in touch with families, and do have several things I ask of them. But I also feel that if I have screened my buyers well enough, educated them as much as possible to the what and why's, then there has to be some free reign for them to just be owners and not feel that every out of place hair is going to have me taking the dog back. I am in no way saying that is the case with Abby's families. Just I am not as 'dictating', but I do keep in contact, keep up on whats happening, vetting, etc. And my families have always felt free to call and ask anything, even something that seems basic. Some of my puppy buyers have changed foods, and I am aware of what the change is, and give my input. And I also understand Reds point of view....I have paid what you wanted for the dog, I have passed your rigorous questioning, probing. I did my part, now let me be an owner and not under your thimb for life. I get that. But, on the other hand, the breeder also has to watch out for the well being of what they have produced.
I wonder why all the vets and shelters and animal police dont have laws and programs educating people on what to feed thier pets if dogfood sold in grocery stores and feed mills are so terrible. Is everyone in the US posioning thier pets with low quality feed? There must be billions of irresponsible pet owners shoving low quality feed down thier pets throats. This topic is joke and I think theres more to being a responsible breeder than what you make people feed the pups. So many abused , starving homeless pets you would think the president of the US would mandate everyone to feed expensive holistic feed to solve all the problems of todays BYB's . Maybe what you feed your dogs makes you a better pet owner and breeder? I think not.i think what you feed your dog is your business and if its works then great if not switch to what does work. Its really not a difficult thing. Not all people can tolerate the same foods and that goes for dogs, cats and what ever. Making a great big deal over pet food is really stupid. i'm just glad everyone on TP feeds thier pets and loves them too.
the thing i find ironic about this is when we went to the pound and got dollar they gave us 2 bags of purina puppy chow and a coupon to get 1/2 of another bag and they told us that it was a goog food and that would be good to feed him so it cant be that horrible if the pound suggestes since we feed dollar those bags purina gave the pound like so much of the money if we sent something in and we did and the pound got money im sorry but i think purina is a good food and im still going to feed it
First of all,,,,sorry Abby if I offended you or pissed you off about the breeding thing, apparently you care for your pups more than other breeders. I breed Pit Bulls, and I screen my buyers, make sure they have references, including vet references, and I try to educate them as much as possible on the breed. Most of my dogs go to other kennels where they are already aware of the breed. Anyways,,,that said. I agree with Husky...this is ridiculous to get you undies in a wad over dog food...I feed mine purina and will continue until I feel the need to change. (which wont be anytime soon, since I have fed Purina for 13 yrs) Have agood one...LOL
Well, if you all are comfortable feeding crap food full of fillers and picking up excessive amount of poop because of that crappy food, thats your choice. Dogs cant say "I need to eat healthier", we need to make that choice for them.
And you dont need the government to tell you the food is not healthy. Read the ingredients yourself. Dogs are not vegetarians, if the first ingredient of the food is corn, why the heck would you feed it?
Riley---you're exactly rite, it is my choice, and my dogs love it , eat well, and are healthy,,so drop it. Besides, it give my kids something to do on the weekends,,,pick up poop LOL,,,j/k had to put a joke in there somewhere, ppl are getting to riled up,,,calm down geez,,,,
Riley I eat mickey ds , frozen burritos , pizza , omg hot dogs and sausage .am i poisoning myself ,maybe ,but it's oh so good. point being, let it be. well know what's good for our dogs and what works .the same as i know what i can and can not eat. i love junk food.my dogs do to.they get some sort of table scraps it least once a day.they are healthy.
Maybe she isn't the only one that needs to chill out?
If you want to feed your so well loved pet junk! Go right ahead, you won't be buying any of my pups either for that matter! I quess the proverb " stupid is as stupid does rightfully applies to this as any topic! "
