We have the priviledge of enjoying life with Lilly a one year old spayed English Bulldog. She is having a problem with her tail.It gets wet and begins to ooze and stink. We dont know what would be the best thing to treat it with. She loves the water and is always in it so the tail stays wet. Please write me as to suggestions of what to use to treat it. Thanks
ok, my sister in law is a breeder, and this happens to one of her females once in a while. it is beacuse the instead of the tail sticking out the tail has a little indention that it sits in. i know that she cleans it out when it gets yucky, im not sure with what, to start off i would use dial soap/water wash or an anti bactirial wash for animals, and when she is done swimming you really need to take a towl and get in there so you can get some of the water out, i think that would also help alot. the reason it gets yucky is because the moister gets traped and starts to rot i guess you would say, kinda like when you put strwberries in water for a while, they get soggy. not a good comparison, but that is all i could come up with. i hope this can help, and if you don't like the ideas call you vet, they can help also.
i think due to the corkscrew tails the eng. bulldogs have the skin tends to stay moist in the folds, like on their face. moistness can lead to bacteria growth. i would make sure you dry the tail very well after she comes out of the water, blow it dry with a hairdryer if you have to to get it really dry.
