With so many threads on grass being burnt and solutions, I've read about a few people's potty areas. Some are dog runs, some are more for potty time only. Someone I know even has a toy fire hydrant in hers.
Does your dog have a specific place for bathroom use, and if you do what is yours like? If you don't, are grass burns a non issue in your home, or do you water to try to spread it out?
I could care less about grass burns myself. I have fenced areas for the dogs, I figure it goes along with dog ownership, lol. We still have the front of the property between the house and the road for ourselves for flowers, etc. So the dogs are free to burn away at their grass, lol.
We reseeded the lawn.. I'm watering the first of the day pee currently.. But some people's potty spots sound like doggie heaven, lol. If I could get enough ideas together maybe I could do somethign with a corner of the yard, but I haven't seen enough so far to get much going so far... It may not happen, in theory it sounds really cool though.
I have an escape artist, and after dealing with him I will always have a secure dog run within my property. Not for the grass, but this way I don't have to worry about people bothering my dog either. Right now we live in an apartment building with several other dogs though, and you can see where the fave part of the yard is, I think it is a part of dog ownership as well though.
not an issue here either. they either potty in the woods next to our house or at the back of the yard behind the shed where it is mostly leaves. if i had a fenced in yard i mught be a bit more concerened about it but now since they are always on leash i can direct them to where they need to go.
lol mafia...sound like our Beagle. We have ex-pens for use at the dog shows, but that Beagle from the second we got her climbs right out of every one of them. She has to be leashed or crated at the shows, we cant keep her in a pen.....thinking I know why the breeders decided to send that one here, lmao.
Mafia, that's why we got it for Max, so he had his own corner. Also, so he didn't escape as he escaped into our neighbors yard once. If you pick up the poop regularly, and water the grass it shouldn't be a big problem. But it's harder when you have a big dog.
Cider is only 23 pounds, but she climbs baby gates, out of the xpen, can jump 3 feet from a standing start, lol. The fence would be more of a border than fully functional. I cleaned the yard today and found a 3ft x whatever corner of yard that would be good. But I'm still fishing for ideas on what exactly to do with it. It's grassless, used to be part of our garden.. Till we changed how we set up that part of the yard.
I water down the pee spots after she goes on the regular grass, and pick up poop most times right after she goes.. so it's really not a huge deal, it just might be easier if she had a 'designated' potty spot.
I understand, it's a whole lot easier. Wow, sounds like you have a bouncing dog lol. Try things like this although I'm not sure how big your yard is and if you want something that big etc, just a thought while I was browsing petco online:
We have 4 acres, and a fair amount of it is wooded. When we 1st got Maggie, we took her out to the woods for her potty area, and now, she always goes there. Even if she is in the backyard playing, and she needs to go, she will automatically run to the woods. My vet said he trained his dog to go in one specific spot. And my neighbors are currently training their new boxer puppy to go in just one spot. But I guess I'm lucky-not only do I not have to worry about the lawn, I also don't have any poop to clean up!
We have purchased the box kennels before....I dont like them myself. The wire is not a heavy duty wirse, it may be ok for Mafia's cocker though, but for a determined dog, no. And they are not as easy to set up and stretch the wire as they make it sound. Our local Lowe's sells the pre-made panels. Already stretched in 10 ft sections, buy the number you want to build whatever size you want. Heavy duty wire too.
Thanks for the help. I'm glad you feel the need to be snotty in every thread. Makes it a joy to not have a block button red.
I don't really need something heavy duty, but I have the skills to make a fence, but thank you for the link sienna. I guess I'm more lookign at what people have on the ground, or in the 'run' area. I'm not fully determined to do it yet. Still bouncing around ideas.
I keep the doors open in the runs that are not in use. For some reason the dogs have decided that one of the 10x10 runs is the perfect toilet and about 80% of the poo happens in there. Its rather amusing.
