I brought my Chihuahua pup home tonight from the vet. Turns out he has 3 broken toes and has been placed in a soft cast until the orthopedist looks at the xrays tomorrow and tells me if he needs surgery. Anyway, he sent us home with no pain meds and reacted defensively when I asked for something to make Keanu comfortable! Keanu is in discomfort;( Does anyone know about the appropriateness of giving baby aspirin? I'm going to do a Google search, but any feedback or experiences is truely appreciated.
i would suggest calling a 24 hr. emergency vet hospital and asking them what the correct dosage is for giving baby aspirin to a chi. it depends on your guys weight. i don't think it could hurt him but i don't think aspirin would be strong enough to alleviate pain from a broken bone. how weird your vet reacting the way he did.
baby aspirin is what my vet recommends for dogs, but it is dangerous to give to cats. No pet should ever be given ibuprofen. What would concern me is your chihuahua probably doesn't even weigh 5 lbs. That's bout the size of a premmie newborn human baby, and I doubt any vet would recommend you give even 1 baby aspirin to an animal that size.
