Ugh I am the queen of clean freak land, just ask my kids lol. These damn little fruit flies are killing me though. I swear they're planning a take over! I don't know where they're coming from, all I know is if you even sneeze to close to the sink they come swarming out! I started keeping the dishwasher empty so dirty dishes can go right into it. I bleach the sink after rinsing dishes, I even give Kaycee dirty looks when she doesn't finish all her dinner lol. Nothing is helping! Any time I go near the kitchen I'm armed with a news paper and oven cleaner (only thing potent enough to bring em down lol) Anyone have any ideas to stop the take over? I want my kitchen back!
In grocery stores they use vinegar (the white kind) you fill up small dishes like pudding dishes. I know this sounds stupid bit I had a friend that just couldn't get rid of them she used the vinegar trick washed everything down with it also countertops etc. then....lol she got her vaccum out put the hose on it and sucked up the rest!LOL Hope that helps D
I have had them in the past. This works but it stinks... Put baking soda in the drain and then slowly pour white vinegar in the sink -- it will fizz when it goes down the drains - it cleans them good too I am not sure of the ammounts because I am queen of over kill --- GOOD LUCK!!
They're probally not the kind that come off bananas and fruit...If thier coming out your drain then thier the nasty little septic tank knats that come out of your septic system. Are you on public sewer or a septic tank? If you have a tank then go buy the Rid-X that you flush down the toilet and it should help..you can pour it down the drain too. They are sickening just because I know where they come from...but i get them in my shower about once a year and I'm a clean freak too.
They were killing me when it came to apples, banana's, and oranges! The apples and oranges I could refigerate, but the bananas would go bad to fast, so I started hideing them in the microwave lol. I don't know if we have a septic tank, have to ask hubby about that lol. They like the sink cuz it's used a lot! With two kids I'm always rinsing out sippy cups, bottles, and food dishes so the flies get plenty to eat in there. I started keeping bowls over top of the drain. We found the breeding ground this morning when hubby emptied the recycleing closet......they found an orange juice container that hadn't been rinsed out!!! EWWWW lol. Hopefully we'll get em under control now, I hate those little buggers.
I have horses and my kennels are up against the house and i had a fly problem, but I bought one of those automatic sprayers that sends out a puff every 15 minutes. the spray is approved for use around food, and it's made by Country Vets. It works well for me. and it also kills other insects in the house too. My spiders have moved to the bathroom. (those little black hairy harmless kind)
i use dawn dish soap and vinager, and put it in a small bowl and wrap it with seran wrap and poke tooth pick size holes in the seran wrap , i guess the mixture of the too products draws them in and they go threw the holes but can get out.. Ive done this for years and it really does work.. I know alot of ppl that swear by this and it couldnt hurt to give it a try.. Last year i got them also so bad. then i put these little dishes out and they were gone with in days .. Also i didnt have fruit i didnt know where they were coming from but i live so close to a cherry tree farm so i think maybe they come from there? so far so good this year i havnet had any.. But im ready for them this year..lol
Vinegar is a sailorís best friend. We use it to keep the mold at bay and the toilets flushing. When the galley sink begins to smell we pour it down. Keep in mind, we canít over use water to flush out the lines, water is precious.
I love the fact that vinegar could be used to rid us of the dreaded fruit fly.
